Wind Spirit Community

Wind Spirit Community Wind Spirit Community is a 30+ year‑old food‑forest village on 16 acres in the Sonoran Desert.

Tucked into Dripping Springs Valley, we live simply, tend the land, and welcome visitors and volunteers who want something more real. Wind Spirit is a +20 year old intentional community located about 100 miles east of Phoenix and 90 miles north of Tucson in the Dripping Springs Mountains. It has 16 gorgeous acres of irrigated land with fruit trees, gardens, small dwellings, and a varying number of

residents that ranges from 6 to 16 or more during the course of the year. In addition to implementing lifestyle choices that are more harmonious with nature and each other than what is usually found in urban settings, Wind Spirit hosts about 6 retreats per year that reflect various aspects of these choices.

Squirrel vs Hawk

A little moment from the Wind Spirit archives:

Back in 2023, one of our trail cameras caught a hawk quietly drinking from the birdbath… until a bold squirrel climbed right up and launched itself at the hawk.

A perfect snapshot of desert personality.

Bloom Morning at Wind Spirit

Propagations from this cactus will be available for sale in October at our plant sale!

The cactus are exploding with flowers again this morning. We walk past the same plants every day, and then suddenly they’re lit up, covered in white blooms, opening all at once like they’ve been waiting for you to notice. Beauty isn’t rare out here. It’s constant. You just have to keep looking.

A moment with our open‑range neighbors 🐄

A small group of cattle wandered along our fence line today, reaching over for a taste of the food forest greenery. Living in open range country means sharing space with whoever passes through — ideally with everyone staying on their own side of the fence.

Queen of the Night Blooming at Wind Spirit 🌙🌵

After the post‑monsoon rains, our Peniocereus greggii, known as the Queen of the Night, exploded with blooms last night. These rare desert flowers open for just a single night, and today we woke up to a whole flush of them across the land. Such a beautiful morning here at Wind Spirit.
