We just happen to provide a diabetes trained staff with on-site physicians, nurses and dieticians to create a safe and healthy camp environment.

🧪 DKA, Explained Without the Scary Jargon 🧪

If you've spent any time in the T1D world, you've heard "DKA" said with a certain tone — usually a worried one. Understanding what it actually is can make it feel a lot less like a looming threat and more like something you know how to watch for.

DKA stands for diabetic ketoacidosis. In simple terms: insulin is what allows the body to use sugar for energy. Without enough of it, the body switches to burning fat instead, which produces ketones as a byproduct. In small amounts, that's manageable — but when ketones build up too much, the blood becomes too acidic, and that's when DKA becomes a medical emergency.

It can happen when insulin is missed, during illness, or — for some families — it's actually how a T1D diagnosis is first discovered. That's part of why sick-day vigilance and never skipping insulin matter so much, even when your child isn't eating much.

Knowing this isn't meant to add to your worry list. If anything, understanding what's actually happening in the body tends to make it easier to recognize early and act with confidence rather than panic. 💙

Was there a moment understanding DKA better changed how you approach it as a parent? We'd love to hear it in the comments.

In 2000, right after making the U.S. National Ski Team, a routine blood test gave Kris Freeman life-changing news: type 1 diabetes. Instead of ending his Olympic dream, it became part of the story. Kris went on to compete in four Olympic Games, win 17 U.S. National Championships, and become the first American to win a world championship gold medal in cross-country skiing.

Last year, Kris brought that story straight to our campers, speaking at Camp Setebaid in 2025 and showing our kids that T1D doesn't have to slow you down — it can just be part of how you keep going. 🏕️

Diagnosis = information. Identity = so much more. 💙

🎒 Back-to-School Prep: What's a 504 Plan? 🎒

New school year, new worries? If you've got a child with Type 1 diabetes heading back to class, you've probably heard "504 plan" thrown around — and if you're not totally sure what it means, you're not alone. 💙

A 504 plan is a legal document that makes sure your child's school day works with their diabetes, not against it — things like free access to snacks and water, no-questions bathroom passes, a safe way to check blood sugar or treat a low without missing instruction time, and a plan every adult in the building (teacher, nurse, bus driver) actually knows about.

It's not extra credit. It's just leveling the field so your kid can focus on being a kid.

👉 Starting point: ask your child's endocrinologist for a Diabetes Medical Management Plan, then reach out to your school's 504 coordinator to get things moving.

Have you been through this process before? Drop one tip that helped in the comments — other camp families are probably wondering the same thing. 👇

💙 To every volunteer who made this year's camp happen — thank you. 💙

Whether you were jumping through time with us in the Stone Age or holding down the fort in the present day, this year's Camp Setebaid team showed up with heart, patience, and so much energy. From sunrise blood sugar checks to campfire songs at night, you gave up your week, your sleep, and probably a little bit of your voice — and in return, you gave our campers a week they'll remember forever.

Camp magic doesn't happen on its own — not even 10,000 years in the past. 🦕 It happens because of volunteers like you. 🏕️

Drop a 💙 in the comments if you were part of this year's Timepocalypse crew — we see you, and we're so grateful.

🌸 Dahlias for Diabetes is back! 🌸

Last year, Lilly Huber and her mom, LeeAnn, turned a love of fresh-cut flowers into an incredible way to give back. In 2025, they raised approximately $1,600 for Setebaid Services by selling beautiful dahlia bouquets—and this year, they’re blooming again with an even bigger goal! 🌺

Their 2026 goal is to raise $3,000 to support Setebaid Services and our mission to “turn diabetes around” for children and families living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). 💙

🌸 August 14–22: For every $20+ donation, a donated dahlia bouquet will be sent to a nonprofit in the donor’s area—spreading a little beauty and joy while supporting youth living with T1D.

And the best part? Donors will receive a fundraiser update sharing where the bouquets were delivered! 🌷

Ready to help these dahlias make a difference? Visit www.dahliasfordiabetes.com by August 22 to make your donation!

Let’s help Lilly and LeeAnn reach that $3,000 goal and make this year’s Dahlias for Diabetes the biggest bloom yet! 🌸💙

Friday marked the epic conclusion of our Time Champions' greatest adventure! ⏳🌍⚔️

When our heroes finally returned to the present, they found a world transformed. The villains' tampering with history had pushed the timeline to the brink—nations had crumbled, hope was fading, and a dystopian future was just moments away.

With the mission complete and the future secure, it was time to celebrate!

Campers enjoyed an afternoon of Slip 'N Slide fun, pool adventures, and one last chance to laugh, play, and make memories with friends before gathering around the campfire to reflect on an unforgettable week together.

What an incredible journey through time it has been! Thank you to our campers, families, volunteers, medical staff, and supporters for making another amazing Camp Setebaid season possible. ❤️

Thursday brought our Time Champions into the heart of Medieval Mayhem! 🏰⚔️🐉

Time rifts had completely disrupted the Middle Ages, and quantum radiation had unleashed a world where magic was real and ordinary people had transformed into all kinds of fantastical creatures. With the villains allied alongside goblins and other dark forces, our heroes had another epic mission ahead.

The day began with a thrilling Medieval Joust in the Gaga Pit, where brave knights battled for glory and the chance to be crowned champion.

From there, the excitement moved indoors for one of camp's favorite traditions—the Annual Talent Show! Campers took center stage as talented bards, fearless performers, and hilarious court jesters, sharing their incredible skills and keeping the entire kingdom entertained.

After defeating the goblin hordes and restoring peace to the realm, our Time Champions gathered in the castle keep for a royal feast and celebration, partying like it was 1099! 👑🎉

From daring battles to unforgettable performances and a magical evening celebration, Thursday was a day filled with courage, creativity, and memories to last a lifetime.

Already looking forward to your next adventure? Registration for next summer is open now! Sign up today to reserve your spot and spread your payments out over the coming year.
