Help us congratulate Firefighter/EMT Mack Morin on completing his probationary period with Winfield Fire/EMS.

Mack first came to WFD/EMS as an intern during his senior year, and over the last year has continued growing into his role as part of the department while completing the probationary process.

In celebration of EMS Week, crews from Winfield Fire/EMS have spent time throughout the month of May visiting local nursing homes for a few rounds of bingo.

While EMS is often associated with emergency calls and fast-paced situations, we also value the opportunity to slow down, spend time with members of our community, and share a few laughs along the way.

Thank you to the staff and residents who welcomed us in and let us join in the fun.

Last night during the City Commission meeting, Mayor Greg Thompson presented the official EMS Week proclamation recognizing this week as EMS Week in the City of Winfield.

Following the proclamation, Winfield Fire/EMS recognized several Life Save Award recipients. These awards recognize code blue calls involving patients who were unresponsive or in respiratory arrest and were later able to leave the hospital. Along with members of Winfield Fire/EMS, dispatchers and law enforcement officers involved in these calls were also recognized for their role in those responses.

Thank you to all of the responders recognized last night and for the work they do for our community each day.

We would also like to give a special thank you to the patients and families who joined us last night to help present these awards.

Yesterday, crews from took part in Boat Operations training at the City Lake. Members worked through a variety of water rescue skills including rescue techniques, J-turns, pick-offs, boat flips, and operation of our sonar equipment.

Training like this helps make sure our crews are prepared to operate safely and effectively during water emergencies while continuing to build confidence with the equipment and techniques used during rescue operations.

Today, we’re excited to welcome Abby Brenn to the Winfield Fire/EMS family.

During her senior year, Abby has participated in the apprenticeship program, a partnership between the City of Winfield and Winfield High School, spending time with WFD/EMS and gaining hands-on experience alongside our crews.

After graduation, Abby will officially join WFD/EMS full time. We’ve had the chance to watch her learn, grow, and put in the work firsthand, and we’re proud to see her continuing her path with us here in Winfield.

Congratulations, Abby. We’re excited to see what’s ahead for you.

C Shift had the opportunity today to sit down with our new Medical Director, Dr. Christopher Morrissey, DO, to review a critical call from last month.

We’re glad to have Dr. Morrissey on board and look forward to working with him as we continue to review our calls, learn from them, and strengthen the care we provide to our patients.
