This year's GREAT GIVE is off and running!

The Patterson Family Foundation is offering $100,000 in match funds if we collectively raise $200,000 by August 31. Some are calling it "The Patterson Multiplier" because every $2 given to the community unlocks $1 from the Patterson Family Foundation. These funds benefit all 19 participating nonprofits and the greater community!

Donate today: www.legacyregionalfoundation.org

In case you missed it, following is the full media release:

Legacy Regional Community Foundation’s annual “Great Give” is back, presenting an incredible opportunity for local nonprofit organizations and the donors who champion them. Throughout the month of August, participating organizations are aiming to collectively raise $200,000 from the community to unlock a generous $100,000 matching gift from the Patterson Family Foundation.

This powerful 1:2 match means that community contributions combine for a massive regional impact. The 2026 Legacy’s “Great Give” leverages individual gifts in three distinct ways:
• Immediate Impact: Direct funds for the selected organization to utilize right now.
• Future Growth: Building and securing the organization’s long-term endowment.
• Community Opportunity: Enhancing an unrestricted endowment for greater regional grant awards.

"Donors have different passions and care about different things," said Yazmin Wood, Legacy CEO. "Legacy connects the donor with organizations taking on impactful work and where there are critical needs in our communities."

The tangible impact of this event can be seen in how participating organizations utilized their 2025 gifts. Past donations directly funded vital philanthropic work across the region, including:
• Community & Housing: Home construction, housing initiatives, and facility maintenance.
• Operational & Client Support: Sourcing groceries and vouchers for food pantry clients, and supporting general operating budgets to continue serving those in need.
• Youth & Education: Recruiting, screening, and matching adult mentors with youth on waitlists, and funding a $5,000 community scholarship budget.
• Arts, Culture & Environment: Tree care, tulip planting, and infrastructure upkeep for historic landmarks; supplementing community programming events; and constructing the outdoor Patio project at the Winfield Public Library.
• Infrastructure & Fundraising: Repairing hail damage on an outreach center roof and purchasing essential items to prepare for annual fundraising auctions.

This year, 19 local area organizations are participating in the match opportunity:
• Angels in the Attic
• Arkansas City Public Library
• Bartlett Arboretum
• Camp Horizon
• Cowley County Historical Society Museum
• Eagle Nest Inc.
• Friends of Cowley County Extension
• Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters serving Cowley & Sumner Counties
• Kiwanis Club of Winfield (KS) Inc.
• SCK Health Foundation
• South Kansas Symphony Inc.
• Sunflower Outreach Services/Joseph’s Storehouse
• Vision Caldwell/S.H.A.R.E.
• William Newton Healthcare Foundation
• Winfield Arts & Humanities Council
• Winfield Community Theatre
• Winfield Food Pantry
• Winfield Habitat for Humanity
• Winfield Public Library

The Patterson Family Foundation is a family-led foundation established in 2007 by Neal and Jeanne Patterson. Rural communities hold a special place in the hearts of the Patterson Family Foundation, driven by the belief that rural residents deserve improved access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunity. By providing these matching funds, the Patterson Family Foundation aims to grow community foundations and build robust endowments for Kansas communities. Legacy Regional Community Foundation is proud to be selected for this generous award.

Donations eligible to count toward the matching goal will be accepted from August 1 through August 31, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.

Because contributions are accepted both virtually and in person, donors from all over the world can support regional nonprofits easily, safely, and securely.

🚴‍♀️ Our Portland to Portland Bike Riders are pedaling mile after mile in support of the William Newton Healthcare Foundation. Their dedication, determination, and generous spirit are helping make a lasting impact on healthcare in our community.

Join us in cheering them on as they make their journey from Portland to Portland! Every mile brings us one step closer to a stronger future for William Newton Hospital.

Why We Are Riding

Crossing the country by bicycle will be one of the greatest physical challenges we have ever attempted, but the miles are not the true purpose of this journey.

We are riding because a bicycle can carry more than two people across America. It can carry stories, memories, gratitude, hope, and a message that every one of us has the ability to make a difference.

Throughout our 3,800-mile ride from Portland, Oregon, to Portland, Maine, we are raising awareness and support for four organizations whose work reflects causes that are deeply important to us.

The MACC Fund supports research that gives children and families facing childhood cancer and blood disorders greater hope for the future.

Blood Cancer United helps fund research, patient support, and advocacy for those affected by leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and other blood cancers.

The William Newton Healthcare Foundation strengthens healthcare in the community where Russ grew up, helping ensure that families in and around Winfield, Kansas, continue to have access to quality local care.

The ELCA Urban Outreach Center serves individuals and families in the Kenosha community who are facing food insecurity, housing challenges, and other difficult circumstances.

These organizations serve different people in different places, but they share a common purpose: transforming lives through compassion, service, research, and hope.

That is why we are riding.

Not simply to cross the country, but to use every mile to draw attention to work that matters. We hope our journey inspires others to learn more, share these stories, contribute where they feel called, and recognize the difference we can make when we move forward together.

Four causes. Two wheels. One purpose.
