FIRST KNIGHT 2024 is just days away!

The presents are unwrapped and another Christmas has come and gone. We hope you had a wonderful holiday filled with friends, food and cheer. There is so much anticipation and preparation with the approach of Christmas, sometimes we feel a bit of a let-down afterwards, but don’t fear for we have the answer. That’s right, put on your coats and gloves and come on out to the Village of Windsor for our First Knight event starting 7:00 pm on December 31st. Park at the High School and hop on a shuttle bus sponsored by Leonard Bus Sales. These buses will be making continuous loops around the venues and back to the high school about every 15-20 minutes for the entire evening until 12:15 am. Check our website www.firstknight.ORG in advance so you can plan your evening to get the most out of the different offerings. There will be program booklets on the buses and at every venue.

If you haven’t eaten dinner, there are many choices for food starting at 6:00 pm at the Light House Community Church, soup and sandwiches at the First United Methodist Church, and hot dogs with or without chili and cheese in the Community House parking lot which is a fundraiser for Cub Scout Pack 68. The chocolate fountain is back at Acclaim Insurance Agency, another of our sponsors, along with hors d’oeuvres, lemonade, giveaways and a drawing for a gift card. 5 Horse Coffee Co is offering samples of freshly ground specialty coffees and snacks and they will have a drawing as well. Specialty coffees and teas can also be purchased for $4.00 - $7.00.
At 7:00 pm, you can make 2024 spectacles, decorate a hat, have your face painted or visit any of our 10 venues for a fun-filled evening all free of charge thanks to many of our other sponsors: Northland Power DBA Bluestone Wind, Visions Federal Credit Union, the Windsor Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus, and Osterhoudt Madden Funeral Home Join us at the Community House at 9:30 pm for hat judging. And now that you are all gussied up (or not), visit the photo booth to preserve your memories.
There are too many activities to mention, but you can see a magician, marionettes, or a juggler perform. You can visit the carnival and play games to win prizes where you might run into Chee Chee the Clown or get into the middle of an indoor snowball fight at Our Lady of Lourdes on Kent St.
The Windsor Bible Baptist Church is hosting the Kopernik portable planetarium, two bounce houses provided by sponsor Airborne Inflatables and Party Rentals LLC, a crawl tunnel and ball pit for toddlers along with story time and crafts.
You can play Bingo and Trivia for prizes at the Community House.
Several history exhibits and presentations sponsored by Coughlin & Gerhart, along with candy crafts and refreshments provided by West Windsor Baptist Church will be located at the Windsor Town Hall.
Perhaps you’d rather sit quietly and listen to music or visit with friends. That’s also an option. Head over to the Community House and Windsor Times Square to make s’mores at the bonfire with Ken Wiley and/or to have a piece of the delectable First Knight cake which will be served starting at 10:00 pm until it is gone (we haven’t run out in the past) along with coffee, tea or hot cocoa. Enjoy the music by R.P.H Band of One.
As the evening and year come to an end, perhaps we have saved the best for last. We will pass out noisemakers, Will Stafford will be juggling fire, we will have a countdown to midnight thanks to Adams Cable. We will also have our free drawing for a 50” SMART TV and some other prizes. We hope you remembered to fill out an entry at every venue you visited cause one of you is definitely going to win! While it would be great to have you in the crowd, you need not be present to win.
As the clock strikes midnight, join the chorus of Auld Lang Syne and watch the streamers and confetti fall from the sky. Happy New Year to all and welcome to 2025!
Thank you to all the volunteers who work tirelessly, to our venues who open their doors to one and all, to our sponsors who fund the programs and activities to make this event possible for everyone, and to our donors who add a little extra fun.

ARE YOU READY FOR THE HOLIDAYS?

First Knight offers a great way for friends old and new, young and old to come together to reflect on our blessings and make new memories to kick off 2024. Come join us for half an hour or stay for the entire night, visit one venue or try to see them all.
You may want to start your night at 6 pm at Lighthouse Community Church where the parishioners work hard all day to provide delicious food for a free will offering. That meal has become a tradition for myself and my family since I am busy with details all day before the event and the last thing I have time for is cooking. Thank you for your dedication, Pastor Kevin Rollo and your wonderful volunteers. Remember, the other venues do not open until 7 pm.
Let’s take a moment to thank the groups who has taken on the task of bringing lights to our community by offering contests for best Christmas tree and most magically decorated house, the dedicated group of citizens who put up the Village lights each year, those that decorate our beautiful gazebo and those who have successfully brought our community a Christmas parade. I am so proud and thankful for all the volunteers who bring so much to our community. Please thank them one and all for their sacrifices and dedication!
There will be many activities and programs at First Knight, but I am delighted to let you know that Kopernik will be bringing their portable planetarium to our event once again. 25 people can visit every half hour, so be sure to stop at the Windsor Bible Baptist Church to sign up for a time slot. The Baptist Church will also be hosting 2 bounce houses for different age groups and a crawl tunnel with ball pit for toddlers. New this year, we are going to do 2 hat judging contests – one for kids 12 and under and one for 13 through adults – there are always so many fantastic creations, it will be hard to choose the winners. Our website www.firstknight.org has been updated with venue and show information so you can see all of the events and their times to plan your evening for December 31st, 2023. Don’t forget to enter our raffle at each venue for our prize drawing including a 50” Smart TV.
I thanked several of our sponsors last week, but we need to add Coughlin and Gerhart, Osterhoudt-Madden Funeral Home and Adams Cable who have also been so kind sending sponsorship funds. These sponsors enable us to bring this event to you free of charge.
If you have any questions or want to volunteer, please call Elaine Card at 607-655-3399 or email her at [email protected].
