Cache la Poudre River National Heritage Area Discover Heritage. Explore Culture. www.poudreheritage.org

The Cache la Poudre River National Heritage Area (Cache NHA) extends for 45 miles and includes the lands within the 100-year flood plain of the Cache la Poudre River, from the eastern edge of the Roosevelt National Forest to the east side of Greeley, a quarter mile west of the confluence with the South Platte. The Cache NHA was designated by Congress in 2009 as a place where natural, cultural, and

historic resources combine to form a cohesive, nationally significant landscape. The Cache NHA, managed by the Poudre Heritage Alliance, strives to promote various historical and cultural opportunities, engage visitors and residents in the river corridor, and inspire learning, preservation, and stewardship.

June is GREAT OUTDOORS MONTH! First created as 'Great Outdoors Week' in 1998, it was expanded to include the entire month of June in 2019. Along the Cache NHA, we love any excuse to spend time by the river.

Here are some ways you can appreciate the great outdoors in the heritage area:

🚲Cycle the newest connection of the Poudre River Trail or revisit favorite spots along the trail.
🎣Go fishing for trout and catch your dinner along the river.
🏕️For an extended time outdoors, spend a night under the stars in one of our local camping sites.
🔍Make the heritage area your classroom. Find an old building and learn its history.
☀️Take your work outside. Find a patio at a local brewery or coffee shop and catch some fresh air.

What's your favorite way to enjoy the great outdoors?

💧Watering the West: A Documentary Trilogy
This film series covers critical water issues facing the American West with an inside view from people who live and work in the water of Poudre Valley, the Grand Valley, the San Luis Valley and along the Colorado River in the headwaters state of Colorado. Discover the people and programs aiming to listen, connect, and cooperate, to those who seek to replace divisiveness with collaboration as the American West moves into a future of increasingly scarce water supplies.

🚨 This is your final reminder to submit a Letter of Intent! LOIs are DUE by June 13th and must be submitted to qualify for funding application for the 2026 Community Project Grant Cycle.

From captivating documentaries to mesmerizing art installations, interpretive signs gracing the Poudre River Trail, and the exploration of our unique water heritage, to museum exhibits and the preservation of historic sites—the possibilities are practically endless! We look forward to partnering with you in this community-driven approach to heritage conservation and economic development.

Send this to someone who could benefit from funds for a Community Project!

With Father's Day only a little over two weeks away, we thought we'd brighten your day with a little dad humor.

Dad Jokes of the Poudre
💧"The Poudre has survived floods, water wars, and tourist season on a Saturday morning. Truly the toughest river in the West."
💧"Been called a lot of things in my life. Wild & Scenic would be a new one."
💧"It's pronounced 💩-der. Just visualize the emoji."

While we can't change a dad's sense of humor, we do sell the POO-der shirts in our store. Take home a piece of humor to brighten your day!

We're less than two weeks away from officially "closing the gap" on the Poudre River Trail! Join us for the official celebration on Saturday, June 13th, 2026.

With the newly-completed trail, here's a mini-refresher on trail etiquette.

🚶‍➡️Stay on the right side with the flow of traffic.
🍃Control your speed! Slow down and use caution when overtaking other trail users.
🚲Let others know you're coming. When on a bike, ring a bell or say a friendly greeting like "on your left."
🐦‍⬛Admire from afar. Stay on the designated trail and leave plants or wildlife alone.
🚧Remember to respect private property.
♻️"Leave No Trace" by staying on the trail and putting any trash in the can.

Let's make the Poudre River Trail a great experience for everyone!

We admit it- summer in Northern Colorado gets busy. The days and to-do lists are longer, the temperatures are warmer, and event season is in full effect. Before summer flies by in buzz of activity and mosquitos, we invite you to add a splash of color to your list by exploring art around town.

🖌️Make it a date or friends' day out at the Capture the Cache Exhibition in Fort Collins.
🖌️Get an overview of local galleries with First Friday art walks in Laporte, Greeley, and Fort Collins.
🖌️Add your own splash of color to canvas with art class offerings in the Creative District.
🖌️And more!

Recreating on the river is nothing new around here.💦 Back in 1968, a photo was taken of spectators watching a kayak race on the Cache la Poudre River. Nowadays, if you're craving a kayak session, the river offers plenty of good spots. Two of our favorites are the Poudre River Whitewater Park in Fort Collins and the Eastman Park River Experience in Windsor.

Happy paddling!

Nothing says "thinking about you" like a handwritten card. Did you know we offer postcards for sale? They are a simple and scenic way to let someone special in your life know you care. Here's a few suggestions to make the note memorable:

✍️For Father's Day: Write a bit of wisdom from your dad you've always cherished.

✍️Just Because: Invite a friend for a day outdoors along the river. You can fish, hike, or enjoy a leisurely chat together.

✍️Wish You Were Here: Send a note with the favorite parts about your visit to the Cache NHA to a friend or loved one. You might inspire them to take a trip!

When you stop by, check out our featured exhibit for the week on Will Pixler and Cycling in the NHA.🚲 You can share interesting facts about a real-life ditch rider on your postcard to a friend!

"Land and water is, in some ways, a canvas. How we value those lands and what we see of them is how we will ultimately steward them." - Theron Verna

In our latest guest blog, Chelsie Romulo, Chris Talbot, and Theron Verna dive deep into the interlinked cultural and natural history of the Cache la Poudre River. Inspired by the film, Manzanar Diverted: When Water Becomes Dust, they reflect on the parallels between the themes in the film and the Cache la Poudre River's natural and cultural heritage.

About Manzanar Diverted: This documentary film follows intergenerational women from three communities who defend the land, their history, and their culture from the insatiable thirst of Los Angeles. Featuring breathtaking photography and immersive soundscapes, the film recounts more than 150 years of history. Recently, it was shown as part of the International Film Series at the University of Northern Colorado.
