❤️ We hate asking, but right now, we need to be honest.
Over the past few months, we’ve had to make one of the hardest decisions a rescue can make: slow down our intake. Not because the dogs stopped needing us, and certainly not because we stopped caring — but because financially, we simply cannot keep saying “yes” at the rate we have been.
Right now, Compassion for Canines is carrying $13,000 in credit card debt, $5,600 on CareCredit, and $3,400 owed to our spay/neuter clinic. This month, we received just $149 in donations. We are incredibly grateful for every dollar, but $149 doesn’t even cover three bags of dog food.
And yet… there are dogs we simply can’t say no to.
Meet Pretzel. 🥨🐾
Pretzel was found as a stray with some of the worst ears we have ever seen. She has extensive masses throughout her ears and will need surgery to try to debulk them and give her some relief. Unfortunately, depending on what our veterinary team finds, she may ultimately need her ear canals completely removed - a procedure that needs to be performed by a board certified veterinary surgeon
Her care alone will likely cost several thousand dollars.
This is what makes slowing down so hard. The phone still rings. The shelter pleas still come. Dogs like Pretzel still show up needing someone to say, “Yes. We’ll help you.”
But we can’t keep doing that without you.
If every person who follows our page donated even $5, it would help us pay down our veterinary debt, care for the dogs already depending on us, help Pretzel get the surgery she needs, and — most importantly — allow us to keep our doors open so we can start saying YES more often again.
