We are so excited to see another piece of adaptive equipment officially available in Estes Park! Through our partnership with Estes Park Mountain Shop, individuals with disabilities and their families now have another way to get outside, explore, and experience Colorado together.

Adventure should be accessible to EVERYONE. And little by little, we’re helping make that happen. 🏔️🚲

Wings for All is such a wonderful opportunity for individuals with disabilities and their families to practice the entire airport and boarding experience in a safe, supportive environment.

If air travel feels overwhelming or uncertain for your family, this is an incredible way to build confidence, familiarity, and independence before the real thing!

Wings for All® is an airport rehearsal program specifically designed for individuals on the autism spectrum or with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. The program gives families the chance to experience all the steps involved in the air travel process in a safe, but realistic environment. The WINGS for All itinerary…
Families (individual with IDD + up to 3 additional family members or supports) arrive at the airport around 10am and are greeted and checked-in for the days’ events by volunteers from the Colorado Arc Network (CAN), United Airlines, DEN airport and TSA staff, then will proceed to check-in at the ticket counter to receive their boarding pass, go through TSA security, and board a plane (that does not take off). A reception will be held for all participants with light snacks and refreshments after deboarding the plane.

This event is FREE to all participants, but families are responsible for paying their own costs to travel to and from the airport. Space is limited and all families must pre-register online (please let us know if you or someone you know needs assistance with registration…we’re happy to help!) in order to pass through TSA security. If only the world could see our kids through our eyes. ❤️

They might stop seeing the diagnosis first.

They would see the determination it takes to do things others take for granted.
The courage behind every new step.
The joy they bring into a room.
The humor. The kindness. The grit.
The dreams that deserve to be taken seriously.
The potential that is so often underestimated.

They would understand that needing support does not mean lacking ability.

That doing something differently does not make it less meaningful.

And that a life with a disability is not a life of less.

As parents, we get a front-row seat to something we wish everyone could see: just how capable, valuable, resilient and extraordinary our kids really are.

Because if the world could see our kids through our eyes—even for a moment—

it wouldn't see limitations first.
It would see possibility. ❤️

School has started. New routines are beginning. And for many families, there’s a mixture of hope, excitement, nervousness…and overwhelm.

Because raising a child with a disability often comes with a whole layer of work that most people never see.

The appointments.
The therapies.
The insurance calls.
The paperwork.
The IEP meetings.
The emails to teachers.
The equipment.
The transportation.
The schedules.
The advocacy.

It's remembering what needs to happen next, anticipating what might go wrong, explaining your child's needs again and again, and constantly trying to make sure they have the same opportunities as everyone else.

And underneath all of that, you're still simply Mom. Dad. Grandma. Grandpa. Caregiver.

You still want to enjoy the first-day picture. Hear about their day. Celebrate the wins. Laugh together. And sometimes just be their parent instead of their advocate, case manager, scheduler, researcher, and problem-solver.

So as everyone settles into this new school year, check on the disability families in your life.

Offer the ride. Bring dinner. Listen without trying to fix it. Celebrate their child's victories. And sometimes, simply remind them: “I see how much you're carrying.”

Because sometimes supporting an individual with a disability starts with supporting the people who love them. 💛

Inclusion isn’t always complicated. 💛

Sometimes one small adjustment can completely change someone’s ability to participate.

It might look like:

- Adding a picture schedule so someone knows what comes next.
- Offering written or visual instructions instead of only giving directions verbally.
- Moving an activity to an accessible space so a wheelchair user can participate alongside everyone else.
- Turning down the music or providing a quiet space when sensory overload becomes a barrier.
- Giving someone extra time to process a question and respond instead of answering for them.
- Breaking a job into clear, visual steps so an employee can work more independently.
- Adjusting a rule, piece of equipment, or activity so someone can participate without changing the purpose of the experience.

None of these things lowers expectations.

They simply remove a barrier.

At Avery’s Light, we believe inclusion often begins when someone is willing to ask:

“What is getting in the way—and what small change could help?”

Because one small adjustment can mean the difference between watching and participating, needing help and gaining independence, or being left out and being given a chance.

Invite them. Ask what they need. Make the adjustment. Give them the opportunity.

Sometimes that's where possibility begins. 💛
