Maple sugaring season is about to begin! From Chuck Drake our "Sugar Meister:"

"Weather forecasts are saying that we will see a break in the cold weather. I am in the process of working on ways of getting into the woods with sugaring gear in the deep snow." With any luck he had hoped to be boiling this week. Watch for the steam!

Immediate Release from Chuck Drake:

Jazz and Blues Classics at the Park

The Friends of Northwest Park are pleased to present Mama Train in concert on Saturday, February 7th at 7:30 pm at the Northwest Park Nature Center in Windsor, Connecticut.

All aboard Mama Train for an evening that whisks you back to the Jazz Age. This captivating jazz combo, led by a vintage-voiced chanteuse and a stride-style pianist, “celebrates the spirit of the Jazz Age with rich female vocals and dynamic, expressive piano”. Inspired by legends like Billie Holiday and Django Reinhardt, Mama Train performs jazz and blues classics from the 1920s through 1950s, infusing each song with retro flair and modern verve. Close your eyes and you might imagine yourself in a smoky Harlem speakeasy or a Parisian café – the band’s soulful melodies and hot club rhythms truly transport listeners to another era. “A small act with a big vintage sound,” as one concert series described them, Mama Train delivers sultry ballads, snappy swing numbers, and playful blues with equal aplomb

Please see this announcement from the President of the Friends of Northwest Park about the 2025 Country Fair:

"The annual Northwest Park Country Fair will be on pause for 2025 as plans take shape for a reimagined fall community celebration returning in 2026.

For over 40 years, the Friends of Northwest Park have coordinated this wonderful community event. Due to current volunteer limitations, the coordination baton is being passed to the Town of Windsor's Northwest Park staff who will lead the future fall event starting in 2026. The event will continue to be a joint venture between the two organizations and we are committed to preserving the spirit of the Country Fair while creating an exciting new tradition for the community to enjoy.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the many volunteers, sponsors, and community members who have made the Country Fair such a special part of Windsor's story. We look forward to welcoming you back in 2026 to celebrate the next chapter of this community event at Northwest Park & Nature Center
