Spring update from Pack 201!!
You can find us this weekend at SpringFest at Veteran's Memorial Park, and we hope to see you there! Girls and boys ages K-5 are welcome to join, and we are always looking to grow our Pack -- the more the merrier!!!
It's been a busy fall and winter for our cub scouts! We even got a chance to catch some amazing photos of the northern lights during a den meeting!
In the fall we took part in our annual Camp O campout weekend and gathering with the older troop and the Girls Scouts. Scouts went on a hike up along the ridge of Metacomet Trail and enjoyed some amazing views, while also learning about water storage along hiking trails. They also learned first aid, fire-building, and other skills. And it was beautiful weather for camping out!
We participated in the town Trunk-or-Treat where the kids had decided that this year the theme would be a Pokémon Campout. They also helped honor nursing home resident veterans for Veteran's Day, and we took part in the town's annual food drive. You may have also spotted our float again at the Torchlight Parade!
Pinewood Derby is always a big highlight event of our year, and several of our cubs went on to the district race! We love our new tradition of evening glow-in-the-dark races!
We were able to arrange several fieldtrips this year, including a visit to the Fire Academy where we got a tour, watched some fire fighters in training, and got to climb on a firetruck!
We got a tour of the Air National Guard base, learned about the different jobs that Airmen fulfill, got to explore a C-130 cargo plane and the cockpit, and got to drive different vehicles using the transportation vehicle simulator.
We also went to a Yard Goats game for Scout Day, joined in a parade to show our pride, and watched the local team enjoy a victory. We even had the opportunity to camp out overnight on the field while watching Toy Story on the jumbotron!
Throughout the year during meetings, scouts work on their achievements and advancements learning new skills and group cooperation. This week, our oldest 5th grade cub scouts will be earning their Arrow of Light rank, the highest rank a cub scout can earn, and their accomplishments will be celebrated.
Next week all of our scouts will be honored during our Crossover ceremony where they will earn their next ranks for the upcoming year, and our new AOLs will be welcomed into the older troops of their choice to further their scouting adventures!
