Adventure is out there...just a little further. Training for our Summer Adventure Kayak Trip began several weeks ago with a severe workout on Lake Lanier followed by T-Boat rescue maneuvers in it's frigid waters. More important than the strength needed to paddle for days on the river is the strength needed to aid in the rescue of a fellow boater should that need arise. And yes, we will flip our kayaks, and reentry will get easier as strength increases. Well, the fun continued this last weekend with a combined Troop and Crew campout at Lake Elder. With a Crossover Ceremony for four (4) new Boys joining our Troop, and a sunny day on the lake with kayaks and two recently donated sailboats, there was experience and adventure enough to be had by all.

Our Court of Honor was a celebration of how hard we have worked, and testimony to how hard we have played. With a final competion at a recent campout of various kayak, canoe, and swimming maneuvers ...the winning Patrol for Summer Olympic Award is...the Panda Patrol!

This year was the 35th annual 5k / 10k Summers End Race in Winder Georgia, and we were there again with several water stations setup along the routes. It has been a annual tradition for us to volunteer our services for this run, starting as early as 2001 while our boys were Cub Scouts with Pack 574, and now years later with our own Troop and Crew 173. Many of the boys who had first volunteered with us have long since earned their Eagle Rank, and moved on to trade schools, college, work, and families.
Providing opportunities for community service is just one of many building blocks set in the foundation of our Scouting youth, and it has the potential to improve their lives and those in their circle of friends and family.
The Winder Barrow Brad Akins YMCA did a superb job organizing this event...two thumbs up and Good Job!
We are so blessed to have the YMCA for our Troop and Crew Charter!

Co-ed Venture Crew meets each Monday at 1900 at the YMCA in Winder, GA. Camping, cycling, swimming, hiking, anything that pushes us is what we like.

This is the 6th and final leg of our trip from Pittsburgh to DC. There's lots of mudd, geese and even priests for this leg ending at our nations capital.
