Through The RAC, our goal is to encourage the young people in our community to DREAM BIG and prepare them for success by showing them they are loved, respected, and significant. The Rowland Arts Center (RAC) provides the middle-school and high-school age students in our community with a safe, positive environment that they can truly call their own. This space will allow students in our after schoo

l programs a place to discover and cultivate their interests and talents. Additionally, this entire space will be available to any youth-focused church or civic organization in our community to rent for special events or meetings. A key component of The RAC is the development of transformational relationships. Our staff – which is primarily made of volunteers who are passionate about raising up the young people in our community - will invest their time and energy as mentors, seeking first to offer an environment of safety and trust, then working intentionally to have meaningful conversations with the students. Throughout all this, our mentors will identify areas of need for the students – physical, emotional, academic, etc. – and work to develop plans and/or programs to help meet these needs. Our volunteers are caring adults who come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences (i.e. who desire to see positive, tangible change in the lives of young people.

Our Mentors & Meals program fuels our future 🔬📚

Every week 5th–8th graders arrive at RAC to relax, tackle homework with one‑on‑one help, explore STEM, and share a warm meal with caring volunteers. This after‑school program serves 25+ students daily and helps them build confidence in themselves & school, as well as makes sure they get dinner. We also have the most amazing high school tutors from NHS & Beta Club who pour into and mentor our middle school students.

Just $25 covers a week of snacks and $50 provides a dinner for 20–30 students—and thanks to the Bluegrass Gives matches, your gift goes FOUR TIMES as far! Sponsor a student’s snacks or meal today and help our young people dream big.

We are so thrilled to announce that Mentors & Meals is back starting this Wednesday! We started this incredible program in 2016 and have changed hundreds of lives over the last 9 years.

As a reminder- this is a FREE after school mentoring and tutoring program for our Baker Intermediate and Robert D. Campbell Jr High students.

Students ride the bus to the RAC after school, spend an hour relaxing and decompressing from the day and then we start homework/tutoring hour from 4-5pm. Our middle school students will be paired with high school tutors from NHS & Beta Clubs and work on the necessary skills and habits to improve their grades and have help navigating their weekly homework.

Lastly, we round out the day with dinner provided by our amazing meal volunteers and then they head home.

As we launch this year- we'd love to bring on more meal volunteers. If you are interested in sponsoring a dinner or bringing food one night for our students, please reach out to Joseph Miller at (859) 595-0268 or [email protected].
