Umpqua Valley Humane Society Umpqua Valley Humane Society Founded in 1953
We are a 501C3 nonprofit, our meetings are open and our financial records are
available to the public.

We assist in the cost of spay and neuter of pets. We assist with the cost of emergency medical care The Umpqua Valley Humane Society was Founded in 1953. We are the first animal welfare organization in Douglas County. There was no shelter facility for the county at the time and the members, using their own money built the
animal shelter over the years. When I first became a member we put in a new

heating system. We are also the only people who paid for the property that Saving Grace is located on. We deede it to Saving Grace.

Lee Bartholomew

I am Lee Bartholomew and the interim President of the Umpqua Valley Humane Society. We have been lucky and blessed to have had Cheryl Donahoo as our president for the last 37 years but, sadly, she passed away. We are the longest tenured Humane Society in Douglas County.
We believe in helping animals whenever and however we can. We believe in helping law enforcement with training on courses that pertain to animals. We believe in offering talks to Douglas County residents involving care of animals.
Most importantly, when you donate to us, the money stays in Douglas County. We have no paid positions and we believe in keeping donations local. We have been silently helping our community and we now believe that the public should know about us. We are a non profit and we will give you receipts, for donations, so they can be used for your tax write offs.
You can reach us at 541-440-3826

With Much Sadness we mourn the passing of our beloved President. Cheryl Donahoo

Cheryl Rae Sellers Donahoo went to heaven on Jan. 2, 2026. She always insisted however, that when she died, she was going to Mayberry! She will be buried at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Myrtle Creek, near her grandmother. She was past Honored Queen of Bethel 18, Job’s Daughters, in Myrtle Creek. Organist of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Myrtle Creek and graduated nurses training in 1967.

Cheryl had two children Trina Person (deceased) and Kevin Donahoo. She served as president of the Umpqua Valley Humane Society for 37 years. She was the founding member of the Saving Grace Pet Adoption Center, and received humanitarian awards from the Lewis and Clark Law School, the Oregon State Police and Douglas County.

Cheryl enjoyed a peaceful life with her husband Dr. Stanley Donahoo until his passing in 2024. She passed away with her beloved dog Lexi by her side. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

In accordance with Cheryl’s wishes, there will be no funeral but in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Umpqua Valley Humane Society, PO Box 651, Wi******er, Oregon, 97495, or St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.
