We have been overwhelmed by the support!!!

After our announcement went out, so many of you reached out asking how you can help The Journey Home. THANK YOU to everyone who shared the post and helped get the word out.

Together we reached more than 200,000 people. That means veterans who need us are more likely to hear that we are still here and that this community has not walked away.

This is the beginning of a tough road. After 13 years, we still have faith that we can support, provide for, and help stabilize veterans in our mission to end veteran homelessness.

We are focused on one thing: Continuing the Journey.

After Thirteen Years, The Journey Home Faces Its Most Critical Sixty Days

For thirteen years, The Journey Home has been where Randolph County keeps its promise to veterans. More than 500 homeless veterans have come through our doors and 83% of them left for permanent housing.

Today we are sharing hard news, because this community has earned the truth.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has notified us that the two federal programs providing the majority of our operating funds will not be renewed. Our primary contract concludes September 17. These renewals are decided through a national competitive process, and we are proud of the care our staff has delivered every single day of those contracts.

We will not dress this up: without this funding, The Journey Home cannot continue as it operates today. But this mission is not finished. We have applied for significant new federal grant funding, with a decision expected in late September, and we are working with state and community partners on ways the services veterans rely on housing, transportation, and support can continue in our community, whether through The Journey Home or alongside partners who share this mission.

The future of The Journey Home is uncertain. The importance of the mission is not.

Here is what you can do right now:

Contact our federal delegation. Ask Rep. Jefferson Shreve, Sen. Todd Young, and Sen. Jim Banks to support continued VA funding for veteran homeless services in East Central Indiana. Congressional offices track every constituent contact, and this decision was made at the federal level.

Share this message. Most of our neighbors have no idea this is happening.

Stay connected. Follow the Journey Home page. In the coming weeks we will share specific ways to help and when we ask for your support, we will tell you exactly what it will fund.

To the veterans we serve: nothing about our commitment to you changes today. To this community: thank you for thirteen years of standing with us. However the next sixty days unfold, we intend to finish the way we started: putting veterans first.
