I would like to extend my sincerest appreciation to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church family and the Franklin County community for supporting our Troop 185 and Pack 396 Scouting programs. The funding provided by the pancake breakfast will go to support our outdoor adventures, service projects, and troop activities with the goal of preparing these young men to be the leaders of tomorrow. Thanks again for the OUTSTANDING support!

Rappelling/Climbing trip at Fall Creek Falls! If Santa Clause gets stuck in the chimney, just give the young men from Troop 185 a call 😉. If there was a merit badge for Middle TN squirrel monkeys, these boys would have earned it. A special thanks to all the adult Scout leaders that made this event possible!

Boy Scout Troop 185 and Cub Scout Pack 396 would like to extend our sincerest appreciation to everyone that donated and supported our Food Drive today. We delivered 810 bags last Saturday Nov 1st. We collected bags this morning, Nov. 8th, and received 4,918 food items with a total weight of 4,918 lbs all of which was donated to the Good Samaritan Center. The Scouts greatly appreciated the opportunity to support their community. Mrs. Kristie at Good Samaritan, stated, "Your generosity, service, and kindness are truly appreciated!!!! Well done." ........ I can't say it any better than that. Thank You to every single person that chose to make a difference for our families in Franklin County today. May God bless you and your families!

Troop 185 Elk River Float Trip 20250823! The day started off asking God to bless our trip and keep us safe on our outdoor adventure. The day consisted of conversations of Indians traveling the same route to enjoying viewing the turtles and other wildlife along the river bank. It was fun to watch the scouts skipping rocks on the water and looking under rocks for crawdads and other creepy crawlies as we took a break on a gravel bar. A few scouts even saw a bald eagle flying across the river checking us out. A great day with an amazing group of Scouts!

Troop 185's East TN & Western NC
Disaster Relief Effort update!

I would like to thank our Scouting Families and Communities for supporting the Elk River District Hurricane Relief Effort over the past few months!
It all started with Troop 185’s latest Eagle Scout, Davis Merrett, asking if Troop 185 would be interested in doing a food drive to support those affected by the recent flooding. Davis just got back from a 2,190 mile walk in the woods, completing the Appalachian Trail. He said that there are a lot of places that he recently visited that are no longer there. Troop 185 reached out to the Elk River District Chair, Brad Goodwin, to see if anyone in our Scouting community was doing anything for Eastern TN and/or Western NC. He said there wasn’t and that’s when Troop 185 said, “now there is”. We initially reached out to the Bedford, Coffee, Lincoln and Franklin County Scout families (the Elk River District) and communities requesting donations such as bottled water, food items, clothes, cleaning items, baby formula, diapers, etc. The scouting family and community support has been amazing. We filled our 6x12 trailer with donations. We also collected $2200 and used those funds to purchase 2 6500 watt generators and propane heaters along with propane tanks. We coordinated our relief effort with our charter organization, the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and pastor Michael Clark, in Wi******er TN. On October 26th, Troop 185 along with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church delivered a Scout trailer and Church van full of supplies to Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church in Erwin, TN. This distribution point was initially selected because our Charter organization had family in Erwin and the Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church was a distribution point for flooding relief.
The second phase of the relief effort was a fundraiser for the flood victims. The “needs” for those affected by the flooding have changed. Many of the initial needs such as food and clothing have changed to building materials, roofing materials, flooring, dehumidifiers, extension cords, insulation, drywall, Lowe's Gift Cards, etc. Brad Goodwin, the Elk River District Chair, reached out to our local area Sonic Drive-In owner and coordinated getting Sonic Value Cards for the Elk River District Scouts to sell with 100% of the proceeds going to the Elk River District Hurricane Relief Effort. The Elk River Scouting Community Collected $2100 from the Sonic Card sales along with donations from the community. We were able to purchase $800 in extension cords and provided the Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church with a $1,360 Lowe's gift card. These donations were dropped off November 16th. The pastor, Noah Taylor, of the Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church greeted us both times saying how much he appreciated the support. They are currently working on rebuilding three homes that were completely gutted by the flooding. Sheet rock had just been ordered to help with that effort and the funds we donated will help continue that work.
The links below show why the Elk River Scout District has chosen to support the Erwin Community. If you would like to support Hurricane Relief Effort for East TN & Western NC, please consider donating funds to support the effort. Troop 185 would be honored to collect and distribute any funds you would like to donate. These communities have a long road to recovery and anything we can do to support them is a great work for our Scouts to be involved with. Please make all checks payable to “Troop 185” and in the comments write “Hurricane Relief Effort”.
