This week, the CEO class spent time at the North Greene High School Career Fair sharing their experiences and answering questions from prospective students about the CEO Program. It was a great opportunity for students to practice their communication and leadership skills while inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs to get involved. We always enjoy connecting with future leaders who are curious about business, innovation, and the impact they can make right here in our local communities!

Today, Greene-Calhoun CEO welcomed Don O’Brien from the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

Don shared valuable insights into the importance of building trust, maintaining a strong reputation, and practicing ethical business principles. He reminded our students that integrity and credibility are essential to building a successful business and that earning the trust of customers takes time, but losing it can happen quickly.

Thank you, Don, for taking the time to invest in our future entrepreneurs and share your knowledge and experience! We appreciate your continued support of the CEO program!

Something is cooking in Greene-Calhoun CEO…

Our students have been working hard behind the scenes on this year's class business, and let's just say it's going to give you a taste of what makes Greene & Calhoun Counties so special.

Local flavors.
Local businesses.
Two counties.
One exciting event.

We're not ready to spill all the details just yet...but you'll want to come hungry.

The class hit the road to Batchtown today for a great visit to The Fill Inn Station! Students had the opportunity to learn more about what it takes to own and operate a small-town business, serve a community, and build a place that keeps people coming back. Visits like this give students a firsthand look at entrepreneurship and the important role local businesses play in our rural communities.

A huge thank you to the Fill Inn Station for welcoming the class, sharing their story, and taking the time to invest in our CEO students!

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…

This! This is what it’s all about. This is what we try to model in CEO. Cooperation, collaboration, connection. With five high schools in the Greene-Calhoun CEO Program, one of the expectations is that we do not wear school identifying clothing to class. Not because we don’t like the various schools, but because we want to build the camaraderie of Greene-Calhoun CEO. CEO students are also always surprised to hear business owners talk about how they appreciate and invite competition because it drives the market and it makes everyone’s product or service better. I know how passionate players and fans are for their teams and I love that. But what I love more is this text and photo below that was sent to me this afternoon. An intense school rivalry and a game where only one team can get the W. And this was not before the game, this photo was after the game. Calhoun did get the W, but all of them are winners. And all of them will walk into CEO Monday and work together for whatever goal the class has set. This is CEO. 💙💚🧡

Greene-Calhoun CEO students L to R: Aubri Campbell, Clare Smith, and Carsyn Mathre.

The class visited Main Street in White Hall today to learn about the fast food business. Dewalin Painter, owner and operator, explained what it takes to run a restaurant in a small community. And he should know. He’s been working at Main Street (formerly Dairy Queen) since he was 11 years old when his mom and dad, Betty and Keith Painter, purchased the business.

Dewalin gave the students some great advice when he told them to be reliable and to remember that their time is valuable. He told then there will be unexpected issues and to learn as much as you can about everything you can. You never know when you’ll need to do those “other duties”, such as electrical work, plumbing, and construction. He also told them to remember that relationships are important.

Thank you to Dewalin for his time and knowledge. We appreciate it! (And lunch was good too! 🍔🍟)

Business comes in all shapes, sizes…and sometimes with four paws! 🐾

The class had the opportunity to visit Rocklin Pumi Pups, a local dog breeding business owned and operated by Andrea Schnelten, and learn firsthand about the business side of breeding and raising dogs. Students heard about the care, commitment, knowledge, and planning that go into operating a successful breeding program, as well as the importance of building a strong reputation and relationships with customers.

And, of course, getting to spend a little time with the dogs and puppies made this business visit even better!

A huge thank you to Andrea for welcoming the students, sharing her story, and giving us another great example of entrepreneurship right here in our own community!
