This would be a good time to check your homes carbon monoxide detectors and ensure they are working properly.

Also — be careful remote starting your car if your exhaust pipe is blocked by snow.

Remember to keep vents and flues clear during and after the big storm. If snowdrifts or piles of shoveled snow block exhaust vents outside, can rise to deadly levels inside. We can't see, smell, or taste this silent killer, so be sure you have working alarms on every level of your home: https://ow.ly/vaIF50UVzue

❄️Heavy snow expected Sunday into Monday❄️

🚨 HELP US HELP YOU🚨

If there is a fire hydrant near your property, please do your part to keep it accessible. In an emergency, every second counts. If our crews have to spend 5–10 minutes digging out a buried hydrant, it's time we aren’t spending protecting your home.
• The 3-Foot Rule: Please clear a 3-foot perimeter all the way around the hydrant.
• Path to the Street: Make sure there is a clear path from the hydrant to the roadway so we can spot it and access it immediately.

❄️ SAFETY TIPS FOR THE STORM:
• Stay Off the Roads: If you don't need to be out, please stay home to let the plows and emergency vehicles do their work.
• Clear Your Exhaust Vents: Check your dryer, furnace, and water heater vents to ensure they aren't blocked by drifting snow—this prevents dangerous carbon monoxide buildup inside your home.
•Do not run generators, grills, or gas space heaters inside your home, garage, or any enclosed space. These devices also emit carbon monoxide.
• Check on Neighbors: If you have elderly or vulnerable neighbors, give them a call or check-in to make sure they’re warm and safe.

Stay safe, stay warm, and thank you for being our partners in fire safety! 🚒 🚑

Retired member Edward P. Murphy.

Edward P. Murphy, age 76, passed away at his home on December 11, 2025. Born on June 23, 1949, he was the son of the late Carrol Edward and Helen C. (Peterson) Murphy. Ed worked as a firefighter for the Wi******er Fire Department for 33 years before retiring June 26th, 2004.

Edward is survived by his sister-in-law Gail, nephews Peter and Neil Murphy and his beloved Bulldog Sammy. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Peter.

Around the fire department he was known as the “Guru” or simply “Murph”. He was a wealth of knowledge, never at a loss for words and would put his unique way of thinking into any conversation, from firehouse politics to sports. At the firehouse, Ed would hold court at the old watch desk with anyone who braved his presence and he would share stories old and new…. friends and co-workers couldn’t wait to hear what he had to say next, which was always something entertaining, thoughtful and meaningful. Ed had a heart of gold and considerately remembered the smallest details of his co-workers and their families. He never missed a chance to send flowers for a wake or funeral, especially for a brother firefighter or member of their family.

Ed was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps where he served as a reservist. He continued his support for the U.S. Military by making regular contributions to veteran’s organizations and supporting local veteran’s groups. He was also a lifelong admirer of Bulldogs and always had one by his side. He was a passionate motorcycle enthusiast, mostly of older models of Harley Davidsons, Triumph and Moto Guzi. On more than one occasion, he was fortunate enough to travel across the United States on a motorcycle and would love to share stories from those road trips. He will be remembered as a true adventurer, living life the way he wanted.

A Graveside Service held will be held on Monday, March 2nd, at 1PM at the Calvary Cemetery, 686 Washington St., Wi******er, MA. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.

Arrangements are in the care of the Costello Funeral Home. Memories and messages of condolence may be expressed at www.costellofuneralhome.comp
