Safe Routes to School Winamac

Safe Routes to School Winamac Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is a program that enables and encourages children, including those with disabilities, to walk and bicycle to school.

It will make walking and bicycling to school a safe and more appealing transportation option. The Town of Winamac and Eastern Pulaski Community Schools were joint grant applicants and The Panhandle Pathway also plays a key role in Winamac’s SRTS project. SRTS programs are 100 percent federally funded, which means no local funds are required. At present, EPCS officials estimate that less than only

28 of its 839 elementary and middle school students walk or bike to school. In Indiana, successful walk-to-school programs or events have been set up in Liberty, Tell City and West Lafayette (Indiana).
