🐾 Some bonds never fade. 🐾

Grace had not seen her puppy raiser, Shelby, since Christmas! After graduating from high school, Shelby headed off to Baylor University. It is safe to say they were both a wee bit hapy to reunite! Grace knew who was at the door before we opened it! Watching these two, it was hard to tell who was more excited! 💙

Puppy raising is about so much more than teaching skills and manners. It's about building trust, confidence, and a relationship that lasts long after the puppy leaves home.

The love, time, and dedication our puppy raisers invest in these future assistance dogs helps shape them into the life-changing partners they will one day become.

We are so grateful for puppy raisers like Shelby and the incredible impact they have on our pups. 🐶

Is your dog ready to be a Canine Good Citizen?

Our AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) & Therapy Dog Prep class begins July 8th at 5:30 PM and is designed for dogs who are ready to take their manners and public skills to the next level.

In this class, you’ll work on real-world skills including:
🐾 Walking politely on leash
🐾 Greeting people appropriately
🐾 Remaining calm around distractions
🐾 Reliable sit, down, stay, and come
🐾 Confidence in public settings
🐾 The skills needed to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluation

The CGC title is a nationally recognized achievement and serves as the foundation for many therapy dog programs. Whether your goal is a well-mannered family companion, a future therapy dog, or simply enjoying more adventures with your dog, this class will help you build a stronger partnership.

Classes are taught using positive, reward-based training methods by Becky and Todd Kier.

🚨 PUPPY ANNOUNCEMENT! 🚨

Freedom Canines is expecting!

We're excited to share that our girl *Spark* is expecting a litter of future superheroes with *Spud* from Guide Dogs for the Blind! 🐾❤️

If all goes according to plan, these little heroes-in-training are expected to arrive around July 16th.

While they may be tiny at first, each puppy will begin a journey that could lead to a career changing someone's life as a Service Dog, Hearing Dog, Facility Dog, or Diabetic Alert Dog. From their very first days, we'll be working to raise confident, healthy puppies ready to make a difference.

Over the coming weeks, we'll share updates, ultrasound photos, puppy preparations, and—once they arrive—lots of adorable puppy content!

🎓🐾 Big congratulations to former Freedom Canines puppy raiser Annie and her sweet sidekick Holly on graduating from Tarleton State University this weekend!

Annie has been part of the Freedom Canines family for years, and it has been such a joy watching her grow while helping raise future service dogs along the way. We are so proud of all of her hard work, dedication, and the heart she brings to everything she does.

And of course, Holly has been right there beside her through the journey. 💜

Looking for a fun way to build a stronger bond with your dog while supporting a great cause? Join us for dog training classes benefiting Freedom Canines International, where every class helps support the training of future service dogs.

Starting Thursday, March 26 at 5:30 PM, we’re offering:

🐶 Puppy Kindergarten – Perfect for young pups learning the basics of socialization, confidence, and early training skills.

🐾 Foundation Manners 1 & 2 – Build reliable everyday skills like sit, down, stay, polite walking, focus, and better communication between you and your dog.

Our classes use positive, science-based training methods and are taught by experienced instructors in a supportive, fun environment. Whether you have a new puppy or want to strengthen your dog’s manners, we’d love to have you join us!

🐾 Chin Rest = Big Skills in a Tiny Behavior!

In this quick clip you’ll see several of our Freedom Canines teams practicing a simple but powerful training exercise — the chin rest.

Pups learn to gently rest their chin in their student handler’s open hand. It may look simple, but this exercise helps our student trainers build strong shaping skills, while our dogs learn to focus and stay connected with their handler.

We use chin rests to:
• build attention and engagement
• help pups refocus when distractions appear
• develop shaping skills for our student trainers
• teach the foundation for a formal hold in advanced service dog training

Plus… it’s pretty adorable. 💙

When dogs and students learn together, confidence grows on both ends of the leash.
