Wimberley Lions Patrick Cox was honored this week by the Wimberley Institute of Culture (WIC) for his donation of Wimberley View archive materials.

Cox, a PhD in History, has won numerous awards as historian and newspaper publisher/editor.

WIMBERLEY LIONS GRANT $50,000 TO LOCAL NONPROFITS • Twenty-seven community organizations received grants from the Wimberley Lions Club totaling $50,000.

“Our grants committee selected 27 winners from many more nonprofits that applied,” said grants committee chair and first vice-president Aaron Jones.

Organizations receiving checks were: Amigos de Jesus, Barnabas Connection, Camp Community Start up Kids, Central Tex Theater, Combined Community Action Meals on Wheels, Crisis Bread Basket, Fig Tree Outreach Program, Freedom Canines International, Friends of the Wimberley Village Library, Hays County Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) Advisory Board, Hill Country Community Band, Hill Country Women's Health Collective, Jacob's Well Community Garden, KWVH 94.3FM Wimberley Valley Radio, Mini Equine 2 U, Omega Leo Medical Explorer Post 4077, PAWS Wimberley TNR Program, Pet Prevent A Litter (PALS) of Central Texas, Schoolyard Dogs, Starlight Symphony Orchestra, Wimberley Adoption Group, Wimberley Band Boosters, Wimberley EMS, Wimberley Senior Citizens Activities, Inc., Wimberley Valley Art League, Wimberley Valley Big Band, and Wimberley Valley Habitat for Humanity.

Each year the Lions fund grants and scholarships from Market Day earnings. Market Days is a monthly non-profit event that generates money from its 400-plus vendors, 10 concessions, and parking donations.

Since 2021, the Lions have donated more than $492,470 to local nonprofits. There are more than a 100 nonprofits in Wimberley.

“Congratulations to these organizations who serve our community,” Lions president Hilda Carpenter said. “Grant applications for 2027 become available next spring. We encourage non-profits to apply. Thank you to all those who volunteer and visit Market Days. Without local support we couldn’t give back to the community.”

And this isn’t just any used Chevy. The SSR was produced in limited numbers, with its unmistakable retro styling, V8 power, and a power-retractable hardtop that transforms it from pickup to open-air cruiser.

This one comes with an especially nice story. Its longtime owner was a car collector who kept it garaged and cared for it for most of its life. He eventually left the SSR to the Wimberley Lions—and now we’re passing along the opportunity to own it.

Best of all, proceeds from the raffle will help fund scholarships for local students.

So take a look at the photos, admire the curves, picture yourself behind the wheel with the top down—and remember: somebody is going to win this SSR. It might as well be you.

They’re beautifying a stretch of road that begins at Winter’s Mill Parkway and ends at the Exxon station.

Wimberley Lions -- like every Lions club in Texas -- supports Texas Lions Camp's mission to provide kids with disabilities an experience of a lifetime.
