The Watershed Association

The Watershed Association The Watershed Association is located in the heart of Texas and was born out of a love for water.

The Watershed Association’s vision is for a future with clean, plentiful water flowing from Jacob’s Well into Cypress Creek, a healthy ecosystem essential to the culture and economy of the Wimberley Valley. Over the past two decades, our broader mission has emerged to include fostering community awareness of the watershed and the community’s responsibility to its watershed in the Wimberley Valley,

across the Hill Country region, and throughout the state of Texas. At the heart of what we do is working to engage communities and provide experiences that reconnect people with nature. This principle runs throughout our six impact areas, which support implementing education, land conservation, and water policies to ensure water quality and availability for generations to come. Although the six impact areas overlap and strengthen one another, much of our work in the first three impact areas focuses on protecting the natural resources and ecosystems, while the latter three focus more on people and relationships whether among partner organizations or between individuals and special places in nature like Jacob’s Well. The land, water, and wildlife may be the initial beneficiaries, but it is the communities who ultimately benefit from these efforts and ensure that they will be successful far into the future. Scientific study underpins watershed protection, environmental planning, and the policies for which we advocate. It also empowers others to practice responsible stewardship and champion the implementation of sound water policies to achieve our core vision. Clean, plentiful water is the lifeblood of every community from which all other benefits flow.

🌍Earth Day is more than just one day.

From the creeks that have carved this land for thousands of years to the aquifers moving quietly beneath our fee, this place has always been teaching us how to live in balance.

Yes, the pressures facing our environment are real. But so is our ability to respond, with care, with intention, and with action that ripples outward.

Because protecting water isn’t just about today, it’s about ensuring these systems endure, flow, and give life for generations to come.

Every choice we make, every action we take, has the power to protect and restore what matters.

🌱 Let this be our reminder:
Hope lives in action, and it starts with us.

Happy Earth Day from the Watershed Association!

Aqua’s proposed statewide rate increase and system consolidation is being heard this week by Administrative Law Judges with the State Office of Administrative Hearings.

The hearing continues today and tomorrow, beginning each day at 9 AM. During this time, all parties, including the Watershed Association, the City of Woodcreek, and Hays County, are presenting evidence and cross examining witnesses as part of this process.

No final decisions will be made during the hearing. Written closing arguments will follow in the coming weeks, with a Proposal for Decision expected later this summer.

There’s still time to RSVP for our next Land, Water, Connection, event on April 25th at The Meadows Center for Water & the Environment!

This conversation will focus on One Water principles, rainwater harvesting, and the evolving strategies needed to navigate the ongoing drought and water challenges shaping life across Texas.

🌱We’re honored to learn alongside Dr. Robert Mace, Executive Director of the Meadows Center for Water & the Environment, Jenna Walker, Director of Watershed Studies, and Desiree Jackson, Science & Stakeholder Engagement Specialist.

They will offer their unique insights from a statewide rainwater harvesting study, including how geography influences collection potential and long-term water security, and the human side of stewardship through the Blanco Cypress Watershed Protection Plan and broader One Water initiatives.

🌳The morning will close with the option to step into the landscape itself, through a glass-bottom boat tour or guided walk through the Spring Lake wetlands, connecting the conversation back to the living systems that sustain our region.

We hope you’ll join us for this timely and meaningful conversation!

If you’re unable to attend, we invite you to be part of our next offering on May 30th with Pete Van Dyck, where we’ll explore how to build healthy soils and what it means to drought-proof the land.

🔗Registration for both events can be found here: https://watershedassociation.org/educational-series/
