Just before 7 PM Thursday and a glance at radar is a bit misleading. While the heaviest rain from round #1 is departing east, we still all need to be VERY VIGILANT TONIGHT as we wait to see if additional downpour development will take place.

Full disclosure, confidence in how the overnight hours will play out is about as low as it gets. There's enough support in the data and certainly enough moisture leftover to make it worth watching.

IF downpours re-develop, we could easily see a half foot of rain fall in a few spots anywhere from the eastern Hill Country to I-35 to eastern Coastal Plains counties. If that redevelopment doesn't occur, then our main flood risk is behind us while more manageable rain chances remain through Friday and Saturday.

It's important you have alerts enabled on your phone before you hit the hay tonight in case more flash flood warnings are issued. I'll be in studio earlier than usual to cover the overnight happenings or lackthereof. More to come!

🚨 WEATHER ADVISORY | FLOOD WATCH 🚨

WIMBERLEY VALLEY — STAY WEATHER AWARE

The National Weather Service has Hays County, including Wimberley, under a FLOOD WATCH through Friday evening.

A slow-moving weather system is expected to bring multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms across the Hill Country, with periods of locally heavy rainfall possible.

🌧️ EXPECTED RAINFALL: 1–4 inches across the watch area
⚠️ ISOLATED TOTALS: Up to 8 inches possible
⛈️ Additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms could produce heavy rainfall through Friday.

⚠️Still many questions left to answer and finer details to sort out, but we are now within range of higher resolution computer model data which is starting to paint a clearer picture of how our flood threat will begin LATE WEDNESDAY through THURSDAY.

One thing is abundantly clear: Storms, where/when they develop, will be torrential and slow-moving. Some may line up one after the other with "training" storms producing isolated significant rain totals.

The problem is pinpointing the exact "when" and "where". Because storms Wednesday night through Thursday will be forming WAY ahead of the cold front, they will develop and evolve somewhat chaotically and unpredictably.

So take this snapshot of Thursday morning's radar with a grain of salt, but it at least shows what will be possible. The bulk of our expected accumulation will happen between Wednesday night and Friday night as the slow-moving cold front eventually moves through.

This is your FIRST CALL for rain totals which I'm shifting a bit westward. The I-35 corridor and the Hill Country are in the bullseye of the heaviest rain potential which includes isolated amounts over 10". Where those isolated totals occur, more significant flash flooding will result.

We are in communication with both the City of Wimberley City of Woodcreek and Hays County Office of Emergency Services and will continue to monitor. IF emergency shelters are needed they will be available at Barnabas or the Oldham-Cummings VFW Post 6441 - Auxiliary depending on the needs.

Remember the most important thing is to stay alert and prepare ahead of time for yourself, your family and pets and have a plan!

⚠️A concerning trend for flooding in Central Texas Wednesday into Thursday. Level 3/4 flood threat issued. Several inches of rainfall are possible!

⚠️FLASH FLOOD RISK INCREASING in the coming week. THURSDAY remains as the biggest day of concern, but not the only day that flooding could occur. New level 3 out of 4 flood risk issues for the majority of Central Texas.

Setup - Slow-moving cold front, upper level low, and tropical moisture from the Gulf AND the Pacific will all line up over Central Texas. This will generate slow/training storms that will produce higher-than-usual rainfall rates.

On the plus side, we are in an extreme drought so the soil has some room to soak up some of this rain. On the other hand, drought can make the soil hydrophobic (resistant to absorbing water) when the first heavy rain sets in which can actually increase the risk for flash flooding.

Something else we will have to keep an eye on this week is the lakes. Lake Travis and Lake Buchanan are still 93% full combined and are there for a bit more sensitive to flooding/floodgate operations because there just isn't much wiggle room to store runoff.

Update as of 9/12

We have a specific community member request Mom is a size 6-8 women's. Shoes size 8.

Her kids are a daughter age 11. She wears a 10, 10/12, or small/mediums. She's small/average build.
Her son is 8. He's a size 8/10 or small medium. He is also a small/average size.

Household Goods Needed:
2 barstools would be great if there are any donated. A couch/chair. 2 more beds are needed. A desk for to work from home would be wonderful. We have some kitchen items but need almost all kitchen items.

Items can be dropped at the Senior Thrift Center or River Road Thrift Center and will be available for the community member. Please let them know you are dropping them off for “Barnabas Client.”

Items can also be donated to the Wimberley Senior Center Thrift Shoppe in town! They will give items to community members in town. Items are accepted Tues- Sat 10:00-4:00. Their number is 512-847-3184

We are working with Wimberley Cafe to help feed any victims of the fires who need meal assistance and they are also working to raise funds. THANK YOU, Wimberley Cafe!!

We are working with The Wimberley Village Store to provide gift certificates to families impacted as well!! If you have items to donate, please take them to the thrift store. This is the best location for clothing and home goods!

Gift cards to HEB Or Brookshire’s ( this is best so families can repurchase food and toiletries) can be dropped off at Sonora Bank 9-5, Monday to Friday.

Thank you for your help and generosity as we work to ensure our community members get back on their feet!

Families have each received emergency funds ($1,000 per My Neighbors Keeper) and additional funds from Red Cross for immediate needs as well as dinner covered tonight.

They have been covered for lodging for short term and that is being generously provided at a low rate by Cypress Falls. We will cover that cost through donated funds to the Emergency Relief Fund.

We are working with partners for longer term lodging.

We are waiting to hear back from families for IN KIND needs. If you have a family member impacted, please give them our HELPline number. 512-842-9674

We do NOT need a large amount of items dropped off at this time as there is not a place to store it.

Please DO NOT make donations of items ( clothing or other supplies) until we post a list of needs from families. We have a team at the site working with the families and first responders to get a list of needs. As with any crisis situation, we know everyone desperately wants to help but the families do not have the ability to take in items at this time. We need to get the assistance to them that is helpful and not overload them with items.

What is most helpful now is funds that help pay bills, pay for short term expenses, food, lodging and other expenses that still need to be paid even when they are not in their homes. We are working DIRECTLY with the hotel to pay for their lodging expenses

We have been made aware of at least three families ( at the moment) who have been impacted by the Fire in Wimberley today. We have been working to ensure they have temporary lodging for them but there will be many more needs. If you are wanting to help, please consider donating to our Emergency Relief Fund. This fund goes directly to families in need and provides 1:1 case management for families navigating difficult situations like these.
