Warming: graphic content! Our silly Harry Sullivan had surgery this week. He developed a toe infection this summer that antibiotics and pain meds were not helping the way they should have. An xray confirmed the infection had eaten away much of the bone, so amputation of this toe was the best option. Surgery was performed by our founder Lindsey Nielsen and went well, with wonderful assistance from the team at the vet hospital. It was a perfect anesthetic event, and this morning Harry is walking on his bandaged foot and eating well. These sorts of infections are not uncommon in turkeys like Harry bred to be meat. We are hoping this surgery improved Harry’s quality of life and he gets back to being his usual spunky self soon.
