Does this look like chaos?
Good — that means the training is working.

Recently, Wilton Fire cadets, alongside several active members, spent time working through a series of complex and demanding training scenarios designed to push both their skills and teamwork to the next level. From navigating environments with limited visibility and restricted communication, to moving solely “on air,” emergency evacuation drills, and problem-solving under pressure, the goal was simple: prepare for the situations no one hopes to face, but every firefighter must be ready for.

The training may have looked messy from the outside — tangled hose lines, blacked-out masks, controlled confusion, and plenty of shouted directions — but every scenario had a purpose. Firefighting is rarely neat, predictable, or quiet, and realistic training is one of the most important ways to build confidence, trust, and decision-making skills before the real thing happens.

Our cadets continue to impress us with their willingness to learn, step outside their comfort zones, and work as part of a team. They’re gaining firsthand experience in the discipline, responsibility, and adaptability that the fire service demands — while also learning that sometimes the best lessons happen when things don’t go perfectly according to plan.

And yes… occasionally looking completely lost in the dark is part of the process.

A huge thank you to the active members who helped instruct, mentor, and challenge the cadets throughout the training evolutions.

If you’re interested in becoming a Wilton Fire cadet and experiencing this kind of hands-on training for yourself, reach out to your Wilton School Resource Officer (SRO) for more information.

Did you see us training on the playground?

We apologize if we got in the way of your children while using the old school park. The Wilton Fire Cadets were advancing hose lines through various obstacles to practice moving in a complex environment.

Cadets completed many iterations of the drill, including scenarios done blind, with victims present, multiple “fires,” rotating Incident Command roles, and practicing clear communication with fellow responders.

Wilton is fortunate to have such a strong group of cadets. If you’re interested in joining the Cadet Program, please reach out to your Wilton SRO!

A special thank you to our Muscatine County and Cedar County Dispatchers. Without them, we couldn't do what we do.

It's a big day for the Wilton Fire Department - the parking lot just became a lot more RED with the official arrival of our beautiful new ambulance!

We are beyond excited to introduce our brand-new ambulance! She’s sleek, she’s shiny, and she’s packed with all the gear to keep our community safe. While we hope you never have to see the inside of it, we think she looks pretty sharp.

We’re incredibly grateful for the support from our community that makes upgrades like this possible. Feel free to give us a wave (and a little extra room!) when you see us out and about.

Stay safe, Wilton! ❤️🚒
