Reducing and avoiding single-use plastic is the best choice to help end plastic waste.

But once plastic waste has already found its way into our environment, picking it up is the next choice! Cleanups are organized around the world to help tackle the plastic pollution problem.

Joining a community cleanup is a popular way to clean up larger areas and also to meet other like-minded people choosing to make a difference. Others simply pick up litter in their daily lives.

To make our cleanup efforts count, we can’t just stop with picking it up. Collecting information on the types of litter found is integral, as it can provide important data to understand and, most importantly, fix the problem.

And remember "CARRY IN, CARRY OUT!" Be responsible for your own materials when you're visiting parks, having a picnice, etc.

Weather not looking great today?

Get the kids in the kitchen to learn how to make their own snacks as a popular way to reduce plastic waste.

No master chefery needed. Just a little planning. Many people choose to make their own snacks for everyday lunches, picnics, hikes, pot lucks, parties, etc.

Some simple plastic free ideas we like: (recipes: https://bit.ly/3ouyDja)
Bliss/protein balls
Dip; hummus, baba ganoush
Tortilla chips, seeded crackers or flat bread
Garlic bread 🧄
Cookies 🍪
Banana bread or muffins
Stovetop popcorn 🍿

Most of these snack ideas can be made with simple ingredients many households may already have or found plastic free at bulk food stores, bulk bins at supermarkets or found in larger quantities to reduce plastic packaging. There’s a whole world of flavor out there just waiting for us to take a bite!
