Teton Raptor Center is proud to support the inaugural Teton Valley BioBlitz!
This FREE event features assisted exploration of the natural world by experts in the fields of wildlife biology and ecology. Participants will document their findings in the iNaturalist app. This project will help land and wildlife managers understand the distribution of species throughout Teton Valley and the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem!
The event features several unique components that you may sign up for:

June 5

-Join bat experts and entomologists at one of two locations to explore the world of bats (8-10PM) and nocturnal insects (9-11PM)

June 6
-Join a birding walk led by an ornithologist at one of five locations across the valley for a dawn chorus exploration from 5:30-7:30am
-Join botanists, entomologists, ornithologists, and other experts at one of five locations across the valley for a survey for all species from 8:30-11:30am
-Attend a conservation fair (and visit TRC's booth!) from 1-4pm with featured guest speakers, short field outings, and prizes for those who participated in the BioBlitz!

Day in the life of Cache, the American Kestrel!🪶

Cache was hatched in a falconry program in 2023 and then joined our team in 2024. Conservation bred birds have long been helping save critically endangered species by boosting populations and through reintroduction.

American Kestrel populations have declined 40% since the 1970s! Cache is our best educator for the public and agricultural land owners about installing kestrel nest boxes and reducing pesticide usage. Kestrel boxes increase habitat availability to kestrel’s already limited spaces, and pesticides disrupt breeding efforts. Did you know that farmers can save up to $357 for every dollar spent on a nest box (Shave, M., et al 2018)? 🪺These small falcons are natural pest control, and help manage prey and insect populations. You can learn how to make your own nest boxes in the link in our bio or purchase one from our Nature Shop!

When Cache isn’t inspiring audiences, he loves to perch in donated Christmas trees, go for walks, train with staff and volunteers, and enthusiastically rip up his enrichment. This 0.2lb raptor is a testament to being small but mighty! He continually reminds us that being small doesn’t mean being insignificant - and that even one individual can make a massive difference in our world. 🌎🪶

It’s May, which means it’s Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to reflect on our well-being and honor the journey of our minds.💚

At Teton Raptor Center, we work daily with some of nature’s most resilient creatures. Our patients and avian ambassadors are our greatest teachers in that strength isn’t just about speed or force. It’s about patience, adaptivity, perspective, and protection. Nature often has the perfect visual metaphors for the internal battles we fight.

Your mental well-being is a journey, and you don’t have to fly solo. If you or someone you know is struggling, there is strength in seeking support.

Throughout our community there is some amazing initiatives to help bring people together and connect more mindfully. Check out:

Patient update - May 15, 2026

Northern Saw-whet Owl (NSWO) 26-15: arrived in our clinic about a month ago from Tetonia with a shoulder injury. After cage rest, anti-inflammatory meds, and, physical therapy, this patient began flying again and was released on Thursday back in Tetonia, Idaho.

NSWO 26-25: the first juvenile bird of 2026! After being found grounded on the road covered in ants, he was brought to TRC. Upon intake, the patient was hock-sitting, had some superficial wounds along their hocks, was very dirty, and had an empty stomach. After cleaning and feeding for a couple of days, this patient improved drastically and is now perching, flying, and eating on its own.

Did you know that owls can be aged with UV light? It’s used to show the porphyrin (a pink pigment that owls produce during the synthesis of heme in the blood). Under UV light, older owls, like NSWO 26-15, are aged by viewing their older, less pink wings. Younger owls, like NSWO 26-25 produce so much porphyrin that they can be visibly pink without UV!

Learn more about these patient’s stories on our youtube channel🦉Link in our bio!

If you find an injured or orphaned raptor, please call your local wildlife rehabilitators and officials!

Meet Pava! Swipe along to learn all about her. Pava is one of TRC’s legacy ambassadors🥇. She’s been helping us teach audiences about the value of slowing down during dawn and dusk and not feeding the roadways to help conserving these species, for the past 3 years! You could get the chance to meet Pava during our Avian Experiences 🎉
