Families are sold a lot of "solutions" to school gun violence: bulletproof backpacks, armed teachers, drills that traumatize kids without evidence they save lives. They make someone money or make politicians look like they’re fixing the problem. But they don't make our kids or teachers any safer.
We already know what can work: secure storage laws, Extreme Risk Protection Orders, behavioral threat assessment teams, and community violence intervention. All of these are backed by research and proven to save lives.
Our children and teachers deserve proactive solutions.
Look through the graphics to see what's proactive and what's reactive. Then, take our 5-minute survey and help us bring parent and educator voices to the people with the power to act: Families are sold a lot of "solutions" to school gun violence: bulletproof backpacks, armed teachers, drills that traumatize kids without evidence they save lives. Early intervention is one of the most important things anyone can do to prevent a mass shooting. We owe it to each other to intervene when there are warning signs.
Does your school participate in threat identification and assessment programs? These programs programs work to identify threats, determine if a student has access to guns, and ensure that there are enough professionals available to provide students with mental health services. Encourage your school to embrace this as part of a comprehensive school safety plan. Every student deserves to feel safe at school.

76%; nearly three quarters of school shooters acquired their firearm from the home of a parent or close relative according to data from Everytown Research.
As families across the country prepare to send kids back to school, let's ensure fi****ms are securely stored, so that loved ones experiencing a crisis can't gain access.
Store fi****ms locked, unloaded and separate from ammunition.

FACT: 76% of school shooters under the age of 18 got the gun from their home or the home of a close relative.
The truth is that most school shootings don’t begin at school – they begin with easy access to fi****ms. Research shows that three-quarters of school shooters under the age of 18 got the gun from their home or the home of a close relative.
If back to school has you worried for all the wrong reasons, take our survey to share your concerns and help make legislators understand that they should protect our kids, not the gun industry.

Although it may not feel like it, summer is winding down and soon kids and teachers will be heading back to school. While this should be an exciting time for students, families, teachers, and staff, this is also a time where many feel anxiety around threats to school safety.
We want to know how you’re feeling as summer draws to a close.
Take the survey linked below to share your thoughts on what concerns weigh on you and your family as the school year approaches and what would actually make you feel safer.
It takes less than five minutes and your responses stay confidential. After we’ve gathered the results, we’ll share them out with our supporters, the press, and those who have the power to create safer schools for students and teachers.
