We work in partnership with groups across the state to bring attention to the underlying causes of gun violence and to advance common-sense, actionable solutions. To that end, we donated a biometric gun safe to Safe Kids Delaware for an upcoming event, where it will be raffled off. Gun safes save lives!

When the confirmation email arrived, we paused -- a sports and outdoors item? We dug deeper. Concealed carry holsters are also classified as "sports and outdoors," and am******on can be ordered via this outfitter as well, classified as "industrial and scientific."

Why? Because Delaware lacks a simple banking regulation in how it codes Merchant Categories. So when extremists purchase tens of thousands of dollars in weaponry and accessories, it's not classified as such - so flags meant to protect communities are not raised.

Access to a fi***rm can turn an assault that might otherwise be survivable into a fatal one, and it turns the moment a survivor tries to leave, already the most dangerous point in an abusive relationship, into the moment they're most likely to be killed.
But a gun doesn't have to be fired to be used as a weapon. A glance toward where it's kept, a mention of it during an argument, the simple fact that both partners know it's there. Abusers use the presence of a fi***rm as a tool of control, whether or not it's ever discharged. That coercive power is harder to measure than a fatality count, but survivors and advocates describe it as one of the most effective tools an abuser has.

We gathered with partners across different areas of gun violence prevention to discuss the impact of federal funding with U.S. Senator Chris C***s on Tuesday afternoon.
The message was clear - in order for our work to be impactful to every Delaware community, we need sustainable federal funding.
We are grateful to our partners from the University of Delaware Center for Drug and Health Studies, Wilmington Department of Police - Delaware, Appoquinimink School District , the Delaware Criminal Justice Council () and the () Center for Structural Equity who took the time to discuss how federal funding impacts the work they do.
Every organization is working together to create opportunities for Delawareans so that we can prevent gun violence before a trigger gets pulled.

Fi****ms continue to be the leading cause of death and serious injury in domestic violence (intimate partner violence) incidents.
Consider a Lethal Violence Protective Order (LVPO) if a gun is present and you feel that it might be used to harm self or others. Contact local law enforcement or stop by your county courthouse to get one issued.
LVPO's do not go on a permanent record, nor does it keep the fi***rm permanently out of the owner's possession. What a LVPO does do is put time and space between the fi***rm and the temporary crisis.
