Today is World Marrow Donor Day.

Meet Bailey, a donor, and Wade, a recipient.

At the 2023 Mimosas for Marrow 5K, Bailey registered to become a potential bone marrow donor. Just months later, he received the call that he was a match for a two year old boy.

โ€œWhen I swabbed, I never thought I would actually be a match to someone. It just felt like it was the right thing to do. All in all, the process is super easy and NMDP does a great job!โ€

In November 2025, Bailey and Wade had the incredible opportunity to meet, a beautiful reminder of the life-changing impact of donation.

Today, Wade is healthy, thriving, and enjoying life as a kid again. He even just started his first day of kindergarten!

Thank you to donors like Bailey who are willing to say yes and give someone the greatest gift of all - a second chance at life. โค๏ธ

In 2008, my coworkers nephew needed a bone marrow donor. I had no clue what any of it meant, but I wanted to help. I swabbed and didnโ€™t match. Unfortunately, nobody matched him and he passed. Everyone I talked to about joining the registry was scared, nervous and worried because they thought it meant so much more.

Since then, Iโ€™ve been an advocate for bone marrow donation and organically came across Oakleyโ€™s healthy journey. I slid into Oakleyโ€™s momโ€™s DMs and promised her I would do everything in my little power to help Oakley and any other families going through blood disorders or anything of the kind.

I used to write a newspaper column called Family Focus for a local weekly paper. I was also the producer of a cable television show called Tender Loving Childcare.

I became involved with NMDP (then Be The Match) after my son had a successful blood stem cell transplant for treatment of leukemia. I started volunteering at swabbing events on the east coast. Eventually I was invited to be trained as an NMDP legislative advocate and to meet with congressional staff in Washington to share the mission of bone marrow/blood stem cell transplant and the donor registry. I also found Mimosas for Marrow on the volunteer portal and it is my favorite event.
