🌀 HURRICANE SEASON IS HERE — Are You Ready?

The NC NAACP is urging all North Carolinians to prepare NOW. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1–November 30, and our communities — especially those with the fewest resources — are hit hardest.

✅ STORM READINESS CHECKLIST:
☑ 3–7 days of water (1 gal/person/day)
☑ Non-perishable food & manual can opener
☑ Charged battery banks & flashlights
☑ Medications & medical supplies
☑ Copies of IDs, insurance & important docs
☑ Cash on hand — ATMs may go down
☑ Know your evacuation route & shelters
☑ Family communication plan
☑ Check on elderly & disabled neighbors
☑ Sign up for county emergency alerts
☑ Secure loose outdoor furniture
☑ Keep your gas tank at least half full

⚖️ Disasters don’t affect everyone equally. Low-income families, seniors, and people with disabilities face the greatest barriers to recovery. Know your neighbors. Share resources. Demand equitable disaster relief.

Family members, longtime comrades, movement veterans, scholars, and admirers of Assata Shakur plan to gather at Riverside Church on May 30 for a public celebration of her life — a memorial that will affirm the political life Shakur spent decades defending.

Entitled “Carry It On,” the event takes its name from Shakur’s poem “The Tradition,” which appears at the end of her 1987 book, “Assata: An Autobiography.”
