What happened in the back corner of the Woodland Walk?

For decades, it was overgrown with thick ivy, dead trees, logs and trash. In March 2026, a small group of energetic volunteers removed all the trash, logs, signs, concrete, and other debris from the ivy. They then mowed all English ivy and other growth down to the dirt.

As expected there was a lot of regrowth since then, and that was mowed down today. We will exhaust the ivy and other plants, and cardboard and chip the entire area in order to do a new planting that includes trees, shrubs, and perennials.

For now, we can enjoy pretty annual Zinnias around our swamp white oak stump, which will eventually be covered with native coral honeysuckle. A short jughandle path will go around the stump, seating will be added, and we will have another new beautiful nook in the garden!
