Meet the Speaker: Dr. Corrine Hanson

Weโ€™re delighted to welcome Dr. Corrine Hanson, Professor of Nutrition and Director of the Medical Nutrition Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, as a panelist for our upcoming webinar, Cardiovascular Disease & Dietary Fiber.

A Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and a 2019 UNMC Distinguished Scientist, Dr. Hanson is dedicated to understanding the effects of nutrition on the promotion of health and the development and progression of disease across the life course. Her expertise will bring valuable perspective to our discussion on dietary fiberโ€™s role in cardiovascular health and chronic disease prevention.

๐Ÿ’ฌ "Food is one of the most powerful tools we have for preventing and managing chronic disease. I'm looking forward to discussing how dietary fiber can be part of more effective, equitable cardiovascular care."

Cardiovascular disease continues to drive global mortality, yet prevention strategies still rely heavily on individual behavior change.

At the same time:
- Almost all populations consume far less fiber than recommended
- Higher fiber intake is consistently linked to lower cardiovascular risk

While we support individuals making dietary choices to eat healthier, this also raises a broader opportunity:

Can we improve public health by improving the nutritional quality of staple foods at scale?

On September 15, FIHF is convening leading experts to explore the clinical and food-system implications of dietary fiber for cardiovascular disease.

๐Ÿ“… New Date Announced!

Our virtual seminar โ€œCardiovascular Disease and Dietary Fiber: Clinical Outcomes and Interventions that Donโ€™t Rely on Consumers to Change Their Food Choices,โ€ has been rescheduled to September 15, 2026 (11:30 AMโ€“1:00 PM EST).

If youโ€™re a physician, nurse, public health professional, dietitian, researcher, or scientist with an interest in nutrition and food production to reduce chronic disease, join us to explore how increasing the fiber content of staple foods like wheat can help reduce cardiovascular disease risk at scale.

Attendees will hear expert insights from speakers including Deborah W. Robin, Dr. Daniel Anderson, Dr. Corrine Hanson, Dr. Rod Wallace, and Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian.

Congratulations to Dr. Rod Wallace, Ph.D. and Dr. Gulnihal Ozbay for their amazing seminar on insights from โ€œAn Emerging Public Health Paradigm: Agriculture and Food Production for Health" for the Center of Excellence!

Dr. Wallace and Dr. Ozbay highlighted how the way we grow, produce, and distribute food shapes the health of our communities for SU Agricultural Research and Extension's monthly seminar series.

From research to real-world impact, the conversation focused on building healthier food systems for a healthier future. ๐ŸŒฑ

What if improving public health didnโ€™t rely on individual behavior change, but on improving the foods we already eat?

A policy paper proposes a shift in public health strategy: by improving the fiber content of wheat (a non-GMO crop) through agriculture production and plant breeding practices, we can reduce the prevalence of chronic disease at population scale and generate healthcare savings, without asking people to give up the foods they love.

This collaborative effort from more than 50 scientists outlines how agriculture, food production, and health systems can work together to improve population health at scale.
