Contributions are tax deductible. SBCC does not support or oppose candidates for public office. This progress would not have been possible without the voices of residents, organizers, advocates, and community members who testified, attended hearings, educated neighbors, made calls, and refused to stay silent.

A special thank you to Juan Carrillo and his team for championing AB 2310, and to Suzette Martinez Valladares for leading SB 1230 forward.

While this is not the finish line, it is an important milestone in the ongoing fight for cleaner, healthier, and more respected communities throughout California.

The fight continues. Together, we keep moving forward. 🌿✊

What does Rise Up For What Matters mean to you? 💛

After Saturday’s conference, we had the chance to ask our Executive Director and fearless leader, Colleen Mooney, what this message means to her.

Her answer was a powerful reminder that rising up starts with showing up, staying informed, talking to our neighbors, and finding ways to stay active in our communities.

Whether you can vote or not, everyone has a role to play.

Rise Up For What Matters.
Rise up for community.
Rise up together.

Our kids and youth brought all the joy, honesty, and heart. 💛

During this past Saturday’s Rise Up Vote Conference, we asked some of our younger kids and older youth to share their favorite part of the day, and their answers reminded us exactly why these community spaces matter.

From the activities and workshops to the people, the laughter, the learning, and the love in the room, their responses captured the beautiful energy of the day in the most genuine way.

Sometimes the biggest impact shows up in the smallest voices.

Thank you to our amazing kids and youth for sharing your hearts with us and reminding us that community is also about joy, connection, and feeling seen.

Rise Up Vote was made even more special because of you.

A heartfelt thank you to Attorney Lisa Ramirez for joining us as one of our guest speakers at SBCC’s 2026 Rise Up Vote Conference this past Saturday at the Carson Civic Center.

Lisa shared a powerful message of hope, resilience, and community strength, reminding our residents, families, and partners that when we rise together, we create space for healing, voice, and real change.

SBCC is grateful for her presence, her words, and her commitment to uplifting communities. Thank you to every family, resident, and community member who showed up, leaned in, and helped make this conference such a meaningful day.

Together, we rise. Together, we move forward.

Hey 👋🏾

SBCC Program Manager and Community Organizer Erika Schwerdt will be speaking at the inaugural Nonprofit Convergence, sharing real frontline experience from the work happening across Los Angeles.

This session is rooted in truth, urgency, and action.

From LA to the Bay: Frontline Strategies for Immigrant Community Defense and Protection

Erika will be speaking on how rapid response networks continue to evolve as immigration enforcement shifts. From navigating complex legal realities to protecting civil rights in real time, this work is about showing up for community when it matters most.

This is more than a conversation. It’s about sharing what has been learned on the ground and helping others across the state build stronger, more responsive networks using real strategies that are already making an impact.

Communities in LA have been on the frontlines. Now those lessons are being shared so others can build, adapt, and act.

On May 1, we stand together.

International Workers Day is more than a moment. It is a movement rooted in dignity, justice, and the power of community. At SBCC, we stand with our workers, families, and partners to uplift voices, advocate for equity, and represent those who are too often unheard.

We believe in showing up. We believe in unity. We believe in community power.

Join us May 1, 2026 at 10:00 AM at MacArthur Park as we come together in solidarity and action. This is a space to be seen, to be heard, and to stand for what matters.

We are also honored to close the march with a special performance by Lupita Infante, granddaughter of Mexican icon Pedro Infante, performing alongside a full mariachi band. Her presence is a powerful tribute to culture, heritage, and the deep roots of the working community we stand with.

Bring your voice. Bring your energy. Stand with us.

Trae tu voz. Trae tu energía. Acompáñanos.

Back in Sacramento for Immigrant Day of Action.

Showing up not just for ourselves, but for every family, every voice, and every story that deserves to be seen, heard, and protected.

This is what community looks like.
People coming together with courage.
Leading with purpose.
Turning lived experiences into action.

Proud to have SBCC represented by our incredible community organizers, Erika Schwerdt and Isabella Rico, who are not only showing up, but stepping into spaces of leadership and advocacy as they take part in a Governor’s forum.

This is what it means to lead with courage. To speak up. To stand in the gap.

At SBCC, we believe in the power of unity. In using our voices to uplift those who can’t always speak for themselves.

“Courage is not the absence of fear, but the decision that something else is more important.”

Today, that something is our people. Our families. Our future.

We move together. We rise together. We speak up together.

Community power is real.

Nuestras familias. Nuestro futuro.

Nos movemos juntos. Crecemos juntos. Alzamos la voz juntos.

El poder de la comunidad es real.
