Public Montessori is growing across the country. Communities are finding ways to make Montessori available to more students, across more grade levels, and as part of the public school system.

That growth matters because it shows us something important: Montessori can be a real public-school option—not just a private-school alternative.

So why not Delaware?

We believe Delaware families deserve access to the same possibilities.

Montessori Works is working to help make that happen by creating free Montessori school options for Delaware children, regardless of their family’s income or ZIP code.

What’s happening across the country gives us a glimpse of what’s possible. Now we want to help make it possible here. 💙

Montessori isn’t just about what children learn. It’s also about how they learn to understand and work with the people around them.

New 2026 research found that children in public Montessori preschool programs showed stronger social understanding, including the ability to recognize that other people can have different thoughts, feelings, and perspectives.

That matters. Learning to listen, collaborate, navigate differences, and understand others is a skill children carry far beyond the classroom.

What could the future of public education look like?

As more public schools and districts explore Montessori, we’re seeing what’s possible when this approach is made available beyond a small number of families.

Montessori can be part of public education at the elementary, secondary, and even high school levels—giving more students the opportunity to learn through independence, hands-on experiences, collaboration, and meaningful work.

The question isn’t whether Montessori belongs in public education. It’s how we can continue expanding access to it.

Creating and sustaining public Montessori programs requires collaboration, investment, advocacy, and people who believe every child should have access to an education that meets them where they are.

That’s why community support matters. When schools, families, organizations, and community leaders work together, Montessori can become more than an option for a few—it can become an accessible choice for more Delaware families.

What happens when Montessori becomes a public option?

Families don’t have to choose between Montessori and what they can afford. Children can have access to an education that emphasizes independence, meaningful work, community, and academic growth—without private-school tuition being part of the equation.

Programs like J.T. Williams Secondary Montessori in Charlotte show that public Montessori can extend all the way through high school.

That’s the kind of opportunity we want to help create here in Delaware: more Montessori, more access, and more possibilities for families.

What can we learn from public Montessori programs that are already thriving? 🌱

A few things stand out:
✨ Montessori can serve students well beyond the early years—including through high school.
✨ Students can engage in rigorous academics while also developing independence, practical life skills, and a strong sense of community.
✨ Public Montessori programs can make this educational approach accessible to families who might not otherwise have the option.

And perhaps the biggest lesson? Public Montessori can work at scale. Communities across the country are already proving what’s possible.

Public Montessori is growing—and reaching more students across the country. 🌱

There are now 500+ public Montessori schools in the U.S., giving families access to Montessori education without private-school tuition.

And some communities are taking it even further, creating opportunities for students to continue Montessori through middle and high school.

Because access shouldn’t have to end as children get older. And families shouldn’t have to choose between the educational approach they value and a tuition-free public school option.

At Montessori Works, we believe Delaware families deserve that same choice—free, high-quality Montessori education for every child, regardless of ZIP code or family income. 💙

New 2026 research found that children in public Montessori preschool programs showed stronger outcomes in reading, executive function, memory, and social understanding by kindergarten.

But perhaps the biggest takeaway? These results came from public schools.
