9.11 Promise

9.11 Promise The 9/11 Promise non-profit organization raises scholarship funds for children of fallen and injured First Responders & Military Service Members.

We hold an annual journey to remember and honor those who have sacrificed for our communities and country. Initially inspired by the brave and selfless actions displayed by first responders and military on September 11, 2001, the 9/11 Promise mission has grown over time. These brave men and women regularly display courage, sacrifice and a call to duty. They protect our country and community every

single day. Their heroism comes at a cost; some become injured and others lose their lives. Their call to duty can result in leaving behind their families who struggle to provide for their children. These children are in turn forced to deal with a multitude of challenges. What better way to honor these heroes and say thank you than to provide financial opportunity to these children to achieve an education. Each year, the 9/11 Promise holds a signature event which pays tribute to our beginnings. Starting on September 9th each year, run and bike athletes gather at the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial. Over three days, these athletes go on a journey of Promise, Remembrance and Honor. Teams of runners run 240 miles to Ground Zero in New York City while teams of cyclists bike 200 miles to the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, PA. The event culminates in athletes finishing their journey on September 11th. These events are supported by various fire houses along the respective routes. Athletes raise money all of which goes towards scholarships that are awarded to the children of heroes. The 9/11 Promise organization is an established non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status (EIN: 82-402961).

240+ miles. Two cities, one promise, and a single, sacred mission. 🇺🇸

The 9/11 Promise Run is more than a charity event—it’s a journey of remembrance. Our athletes take on the grueling miles from Washington, D.C. to New York City to honor the lives lost in 2001 and ensure the daily sacrifices of our military and first responders are never forgotten.

Every step we take, every mile we log, raises vital scholarship funds for the children of our fallen and injured heroes. Will you run, donate, or cheer with us this year? Tap the link in our bio to find out how to get involved.

Before the day begins, let us remember the true meaning of this day.

Today is for honoring the wives, husbands, children, parents, siblings, friends, and communities who carry the weight of loss. It is for remembering the loved ones who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we cherish, and who are no longer here to share in life’s milestones or even its quiet, everyday moments.

Speak their names. Reflect on their lives. Share their stories. Honor their legacy. As you spend time with those you love, take a moment to pray for and remember the families missing someone dear—someone who gave so much for us all.

Honoring the Legacy, Supporting the Future 🇺🇸

We are incredibly proud to announce this year’s scholarship recipients! 🎓

This was a landmark year for our organization. We received a historic number of applications, spanning every branch of the military and every line of the first responder community, with stories of resilience reaching us from every corner of the United States.

These remarkable students are the children of our nation’s heroes—first responders and military service members who have given so much. While the sacrifices made by their families are immense, the potential of these students is even greater.

Investing in their education is more than just a financial gift; it is a promise that the service of their parents will never be forgotten. Join us in celebrating these future leaders as they head off to pursue their dreams.

To our scholars: Your community stands behind you. We can’t wait to see the impact you’ll make on the world.🌎

Five months from today, we return to where it all begins—Washington, DC—setting out once again on the journey to New York City.

What started in 2016 with just seven people has grown into something far greater than we ever imagined. Each year, more athletes, fire departments, and police departments come together, united by purpose and driven by something bigger than themselves.

This journey isn’t just about the miles—it’s about community, remembrance, and the powerful connection that brings people together, just like in the days that followed 2001.

We’re counting down the days and couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead. Join us—you’ll feel it, every step of the way. 🇺🇸

Checking back in with Dave Smolka, Battalion Chief of the Trenton Fire Department in New Jersey as he shares his story as a first responder during September 11th.

“You gotta realize how big the buildings were-the steel and the dirt and the fires that were still burning and the sounds, the noises, the PASS alarms from the firemen that were down...”

We would be honored to have you join us on our run this year. Register to join us for all three days, or for one day when we’re running through your city 🇺🇸
