We are a small, dedicated group of fosters and volunteers. We strive to improve the lives of senior dogs who find themselves without a family to care for them anymore. We do not have a facility. Our dogs live in our homes as members of our families until they find their forever home or in the event of a hospice situation, until they cross the Rainbow Bridge. We provide care, comfort, companionship and, most of all, unconditional love.

🐾 Introducing Lilly! 🐾

Please give a warm Senior Dog Haven welcome to Lilly! 💕 This sweet 14-year-old Lhasa Apso is brand new to our rescue and has already stolen a few hearts.

Lilly came to us as an owner surrender because her beloved human is moving into assisted living and is no longer able to care for her. Sometimes, life brings changes that are completely out of our control, and sadly, Lilly’s family needed help finding her the next chapter of her life. ❤️

At 14 years old, Lilly is a gentle, sweet girl who is good with dogs and kids. She has the kind of calm, loving personality that makes you want to scoop her up and remind her that everything is going to be okay. 🥹

Lilly will begin her veterinary care next week, where we’ll make sure she gets everything she needs to start this new chapter feeling her very best. Once she’s finished with her vetting, she’ll be ready to find her forever family—one that will love her for exactly who she is and give this sweet senior girl the peaceful, happy retirement she deserves. 🏡💗

For now, Lilly is settling in and learning that her world may have changed, but she is still very much loved. We’re so happy she’s with us.

It is with heavy hearts that we share that sweet Tim has crossed the rainbow bridge. His little body just wasn't able to overcome his complex health issues. We are so grateful we could give him a safe, loving place to land where he knew comfort and care, if even for a short time. 🌈❤️🐾

🐾 Remember Oscar, formerly Harvey Dent?

Oscar’s story is one of heartbreak, survival, and an unbelievable amount of love.

This sweet boy found himself in harm’s way when a cruel person made the horrific decision to pour acid on him. But after doing so, left him outside to fend for himself. Oscar endured something no animal should ever have to experience. He was found by Animal Control and rushed to Summit Bridge Animal Hospital, where he began the long road toward healing.

And that’s where his life changed forever. ❤️

Oscar’s adoptive mom works at the very animal hospital where he was brought for care. She saw him at his most vulnerable and became the gentle, loving hand he desperately needed. Day by day, she helped him heal not just his body, but his heart, too.

She became his safe place.

And now, Oscar has decided that she is his forever person. 🥹🐾

Oscar may be blind, but don’t let that fool you, this boy runs the roost!

He has two ornery brothers who apparently haven’t figured out that Oscar is actually in charge. 😂

He may not be able to see them, but somehow he always knows exactly where they are, what they’re doing, and when they’re getting a little too rowdy.

“I may not see the world, but I know exactly where I belong.” ❤️

“Blind? Maybe. Boss? Absolutely.”

“Two brothers, one house, and one very obvious king.” 😂🐾

Oscar is proof that what happened to you doesn’t have to define you. His scars tell a story of survival, but his heart tells an even better one.A story about trust, compassion, second chances, and finding the person who was meant to love you forever.

From a little dog who needed someone to reach out a gentle hand…

To the little dog who now has a family, brothers, and a mom who will always be his eyes when he needs them.

Oscar didn’t just survive. He found home. ❤️

And honestly?

He may be blind, but he saw his mama coming. 🐾❤️

🐾❤️ Happy National Hero Day to OUR HEROES! ❤️🐾

Today, we want to celebrate the incredible volunteers who make Senior Dog Haven & Hospice what it is. Our heroes don’t wear capes—they wear dog hair, carry bags of treats, clean up accidents, make countless vet runs, open their homes, and somehow find room in their hearts for just one more senior dog. 🥹🐶

Our volunteers are there for the scared dogs who need patience, the sick dogs who need comfort, the hospice dogs who need someone by their side, and the seniors who simply need to know they are loved.

They foster. They transport. They help with vet appointments. They answer calls. They do laundry. They clean kennels. They fundraise. They take pictures. They share posts. They donate their time, their homes, their vehicles, their energy—and so much of their hearts.

And sometimes, they start out as a foster… only to become a foster fail. 😉❤️

Every senior who gets a second chance has a team behind them. Every hospice dog who gets to spend their final days feeling safe and loved has a volunteer who helped make that possible.

To every SDHH volunteer: THANK YOU.
Thank you for showing up. Thank you for caring. Thank you for loving the dogs who need us most.

You are the reason old dogs get new beginnings. 🐾❤️

❤️ An update on Granny ❤️

Granny’s foster just spoke with her surgeon, and we’re relieved to share that her surgery went routinely, with no unexpected complications reported.

Now our sweet girl can begin her road to recovery. Her foster will be keeping a close eye on her (pun intended) as she heals, making sure she has plenty of comfort, rest, and love.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared her story, and sent love her way. Please keep Granny and her devoted foster in your thoughts. We’ll share more updates as she recovers.

🚨 EMERGENCY PLEA — GRANNY NEEDS US TODAY 🚨

Granny has been part of the SDH&H family since December 2024. With her Cushing’s disease finally well managed, this sweet senior girl has been thriving in her foster home.

Then this morning, the unthinkable happened.

Granny’s foster mom noticed what she thought might be an eye infection and immediately took her to an ophthalmologist. Instead, she received devastating news:

Granny’s eye has ruptured, and she needs emergency surgery to remove it THIS AFTERNOON.

Her emergency enucleation is estimated to cost $3,600–$4,500.

We weren’t prepared for this expense, but Granny needs us and we will not let her down.

❤️ Please help us help Granny today. Whether it’s $5, $10, $25 or more, every donation will go toward getting this beloved little old lady through surgery and back home where she belongs.

🚨 CAUTION: EXTREME CUTENESS ALERT 🚨

🎉 DUKE HAS FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME! 🏡❤️

It didn’t take long for a previous SDHH adopter to see Duke’s sweet face, submit an application, and fall head over heels for him during his adoption trial. And now… it’s official! 🥹🐾

And the best part? The whole family is absolutely in love with Duke — including their grandchild! ❤️ We have a feeling Duke knew pretty quickly that he had found his people. 🥰

A HUGE thank you to Duke’s adopter for opening their heart and home to their FOURTH SDHH dog!!! Talk about being part of the SDHH family! ❤️

Duke, you seriously hit the jackpot! We couldn’t be happier for you and your new family. Here’s to a lifetime of love, snuggles, happy adventures, and all the good stuff you deserve. 🥰
