I’ve had several conversations lately with parents about football camps, and I wanted to share something I’ve always told my own sons. With girls flag football continuing to grow, this advice applies to those athletes as well.
A lot of families spend good money on camps, and athletes work hard while they’re there. But one thing that often gets overlooked is what happens after the camp is over.
Too many athletes show up, compete, have a solid day, and then that’s the last time a coach hears from them.
❌ No follow up
❌ No thank you message
❌ No communication afterward
The reality is coaches see a lot of athletes throughout the year. If your child doesn’t find a way to stay connected, it’s easy to get lost in the crowd.
After camp, encourage them to:
✔️ Send a thank you message
✔️ Mention something they learned or enjoyed from the camp
✔️ Share their Hudl link, highlight film, or athletic information
Athletes often think exposure only happens on the field, but relationships and communication matter too.
Whether it’s football or girls flag football, don’t let the camp be the end of the conversation. Sometimes the follow up is what helps create the next opportunity.
