One of the biggest questions we get is, “How am I supposed to afford an SLT as a college student?”
The truth is, many of us had the same question. That’s why our chapter organizes fundraisers, connects students with resources, and works together to make these experiences more accessible.
Don’t let finances stop you from gaining hands-on experience, growing as a leader, and making a meaningful impact.

💛 Every community has a story, and every project is built through partnership.
Jacqueline, from the Asociación de Desarrollo Integral de Linda Vista in Cartago, Costa Rica, shares how their community has grown over the years and what this community center means for the families who use it every day.

This project was made possible through the collaboration of community members, local organizations, older adults, and MEDLIFE students working toward a shared goal. Together, they transformed this space into a safer, more welcoming place where the community can continue to gather, learn, and grow.

At MEDLIFE, we believe the most meaningful projects begin by listening and are strengthened through long-term partnerships with the communities we serve.

Shadowing is more than watching a doctor at work. It’s an opportunity to connect what you’ve learned in the classroom with the realities of patient care.
On a MEDLIFE Service Learning Trip, you’ll observe clinical decision-making, patient communication, and the unique challenges of providing healthcare in underserved communities. Every interaction offers a chance to learn, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of medicine beyond textbooks.
If you’re ready to take your learning beyond the classroom, this is where it starts.

🏡 What does it really take to build a safer home?
In many communities around Lima, a safe home isn’t just about having four walls. It’s about creating the conditions for better health, stability, and opportunity.
In our latest YouTube video, we explore how innovative building technology, local partnerships, and community collaboration are helping families build homes designed to last. You’ll also hear Marilu’s story and see how students, local teams, and community members work together to create meaningful, long-term impact.

Behind every Mobile Clinic is the work that continues long after the day ends. 💛

This week, our team delivered Pap smear results to community health promoters in Lima, ensuring patients receive their results and can continue with the care they need. At the same time, we visited a community to evaluate future staircase projects that will improve accessibility and safety for local families.

From follow-up care to planning community development projects, every step is part of MEDLIFE’s commitment to working alongside communities to address the priorities they identify and create lasting impact.

💛 What does it mean to be built to serve?
It starts with a choice.
A choice to listen before offering solutions. To keep learning. To show up with humility. And to work alongside communities, recognizing that lasting change is built through partnership.
Being built to serve isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about being willing to ask better questions, understand different perspectives, and use your skills to contribute to something bigger than yourself.

That’s a mindset you carry long after a Service Learning Trip ends.

Every Service Learning Trip begins with curiosity and ends with a broader perspective. 💛

Students return home with more than clinical exposure or project experience. They gain a deeper understanding of how housing, education, employment, nutrition, and access to resources shape health long before someone walks into a clinic.

These experiences challenge assumptions, encourage thoughtful questions, and show why lasting change is built through collaboration with communities, not around them.

If you’re looking for an experience that will change the way you see healthcare, leadership, and global development, a MEDLIFE Service Learning Trip is a place to start.

This foundation is being built with more than bricks and concrete. It’s being built with hope, collaboration, and a shared vision for the future.

Together with community members and local leaders in Lima, Peru, we’re helping create a safe home for Mariluz and her family. Every stage of the project reflects a long-term partnership that puts community priorities first and supports lasting, sustainable change.

A safe home provides more than shelter. It creates a place where families can feel secure, stay healthier, and build toward the future they envision. That’s why we work alongside communities every step of the way, creating solutions together that are designed to last.
