Congratulations to Captain Donny Brown and Battalion Chief McKenzie Shipp on being named Regional Champions in the North Carolina Paramedic Competition.

They will advance to the State Finals on May 3 at the NC EMS Expo.

Best of luck in the finals—we’re cheering you on.

📣 Please join us in congratulating Captain Donny Brown and Battalion Chief McKenzie Shipp on being crowned Regional Champions in the North Carolina Paramedic Competition! 📣

With their regional win secured, they are now advancing to the State Competition Finals, where they will compete for the Grand Champion Title against four other regional winners and the defending championship team at the NC EMS Expo on May 3 in Winston-Salem.

This year marks the 34th Annual North Carolina Paramedic Competition, an event that has challenged paramedics across the state since 1991. Each year, two-person teams compete at five regional preliminary sites, with the winners from each region earning a spot in the finals held during the NCOEMS EM Today Conference.

This year’s competition featured 29 teams tackling a demanding multi-patient scenario. Teams were evaluated on professionalism, didactic knowledge, and clinical decision-making as they navigated realistic simulations and time-critical environments.
Competitions like this showcase the dedication, training, and clinical excellence that paramedics bring to the field every day. The hours spent preparing for these scenarios ultimately translate into stronger patient care for the communities we serve across North Carolina.

We are incredibly proud to have Captain Brown and Battalion Chief Shipp representing our agency on the state stage.

👏 Congratulations again to both of them, and best of luck in the State Finals!

Huge thank you to Wing & Fish Company for the donation to the Cape Fear EMS Foundation from their wing-eating competition — and to Mason for choosing us as his charity of choice!

We’re so grateful for community partners and individuals who step up to support local EMS.

WINNER, WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER! 🍗🏆🥇

Mason chose the Cape Fear EMS Foundation as his charity of choice for the $250 donation and walked away with a $100 gift card! Mason said he probably won’t eat chicken wings again for a LONNNNNG TIME, but we’re sure he’ll put that card to good use!

Thanks to everyone for your participation! More pictures to follow! 🏈

We are excited to announce the Cape Fear EMS Foundation as the beneficiary of the 5th Annual New Hanover County First Responders Kickball Tournament.

All funds raised at this year’s tournament will be used to assist local First Responders who need financial assistance. Read below to find out more about this organization!

The Cape Fear EMS Foundation was created in August 2024 as a non-profit organization in the State of North Carolina. Our mission is to positively impact the EMS community and provide assistance to those in need.

A key initiative of ours is to ease the financial stress on students enrolled in or pursuing a pre-hospital education program at a North Carolina Community College within the Cape Fear region, encompassing New Hanover, Brunswick, Pender, and Columbus counties. Through our scholarship program, we provide direct financial assistance to EMS students and professionals, helping cover tuition, textbooks, and other educational costs. Our goal is to ensure every paramedic student in the Cape Fear region has the resources needed to complete their training and serve our communities.

Furthermore, we have established an additional fund dedicated to providing grants to EMS professionals facing hardships. This fund, known as the Kevin Fuson Memorial Fund, honors the memory of Kevin Fuson, a valued colleague we tragically lost in 2022. The Kevin Fuson Memorial Fund is a tribute to Kevin's spirit of generosity and dedication to assisting fellow responders in times of need.

Our foundation is sustained through grants and community fundraising efforts.

We would like to thank everyone who has offered their support for a local EMT experiencing a serious hardship. Because of your generosity, we were able to help cover this EMT’s rent and power after an injury prevented them from working. We are deeply grateful for a community that continues to care for and support its first responders during difficult times.

***Critical Need***

A local EMT, the sole income provider for their family, is experiencing a serious hardship and has two children depending on them. We will be providing assistance through the Kevin Fusion Memorial Fund, which exists for situations like this. Any additional donations will go directly to supporting this EMT. Thank you for helping one of our own.
