Our History

The Hispanic Festival of Wilmington Delaware has been in existence since 1976. Councilman Ortega, Mike Hernandez and Ronald Arms among others organized the activities for the week. The “Semana Hispana” consisted of a Food Festival on Market Street, the Miss Hispanic Delaware Pageant at Saint Paul's Catholic Church, located at 4th & Jackson Street, The Grand Ball, the 5k run and the Pu

erto Rican Parade on 4th Street. Today, the Hispanic Festival has become a much-anticipated community tradition and a highlight of the Hispanic Heritage Month. The Hispanic Festival features educational & cultural events, bringing talents from across the nation to Delaware to celebrate the diverse Hispanic traditions through music, dance, art, food and family activities. It educates the members of the Delaware community about the rich heritage of Hispanic culture and the contributions Hispanics have made to our society. Nuestra Historia

El Festival Hispano de Wilmington Delaware ha estado en existencia desde el año 1977. Comenzó como una semana de celebración llamada "La Semana Hispana." El concejal Demetrio Ortega, Mike Hernández y Ronald Arms entre otros organizaban las actividades de la semana. La "Semana Hispana" consistía de un festival de comida en la Market Street, el desfile Srta. Hispana Delaware en la iglesia San Pablo, situada en la calle 4 y Jackson, Fiesta de Gala, La carrera 5k y La Parada Puertorriqueña en la calle 4. El Festival Hispano se ha convertido en una tradición muy anticipada por la comunidad en Delaware, dándole un toque de luz al mes de la Herencia Hispana. El Festival Hispano ofrece acontecimientos culturales y educativos, trayendo talentos Internacionales a Delaware para celebrar las tradiciones Hispanas a través de música, arte, baile, comida y otras actividades familiares. Educa a miembros de la comunidad sobre la rica herencia y cultura Hispana. Al mismo tiempo que promueve las contribuciones que han hecho los Hispanos en nuestra sociedad.
