Our hearts go out to the Kachin people in Myanmar and the Kachin who live in Wilmington for the devastating violence and human rights violations taking place in their village.

Two years after the military seized power in a bloody coup, Myanmar is being rocked by violence and instability in a conflict the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the country says "has been forgotten" by the international community.

It’s been one year since we started resettling Afghan refugee families in Wilmington! When there was an urgent, global need to help evacuate our Allies, people in Wilmington stepped up to help!!

Congratulations to the first family of arrivals for this anniversary ❤️ Their success and resilience during their first full year resettling is admirable and inspiring.

Also a big thank you to all the volunteers and community partners whose ongoing kindness, team collaboration and time have improved the lives of refugees. We couldn’t do this important work without you.

As a grassroots refugee support center, it’s been heartwarming to have such strong support from a welcoming community!

CWS Case Managers support our new neighbors from their first minutes in the U.S. through their initial months of resettlement. We offer a warm welcome and generous smiles as we help them connect with local resources and navigate systems in their new community.

We can't wait to see all of the beautiful ways our Wilmington Community welcomes our newest neighbors.

In the field of refugee resettlement it truly takes a village. When we stepped up to help relieve the Afghan refugee crisis weighing down federal agencies in 2022, people and organizations from all over town also offered to help.

Nearly a year later, we now smile looking back on all the organizations we’ve collaborated with to help empower refugees in Wilmington, From the health Department to New Hanover County Schools to private medical practices, employers, religious groups, other nonprofits, the city of wilmington (and so on)… we’re grateful for the support and look forward to what’s to come ❤️ stay tuned to see more from our 2022 impact report.

As we begin to wrap up 2022 the team at Global Connections is proud to share the work we’ve accomplished this year, as a fully grassroots and volunteer-led organization ❤️💙 with the unprecedented number of refugees and global conflicts this year, Global Connected stepped up to the plate and more than quadrupled our organization’s capacity!!

Thank you to the volunteers, donors and most importantly to our volunteer staff and board for helping nearly 100 refugees and immigrants in Wilmington, NC this year! Stay tuned to see more from our 2022 Impact Report 🌎🌟
