GIVING TUESDAY IS TODAY! Support a floodplain restoration on a stream you love! https://go.tulocalevents.org/easchallenge25/t/crvtu

This spring, CRVTU will be working with TU national staff and our partners to plant 1,000 native trees and shrubs to the banks of Utley Brook near the Landgrove Town Office to help stabilize eroding banks, prevent sediments from entering the water, and provide shade to the brook to keep water temperatures cool for native brook trout and other species. Every donation helps plant more trees and shrubs to protect and restore the high quality habitat in Utley Brook.

We are currently in 8th place for funds raised and number of donors out of 18 TU chapters across the country. Donate today and help us show VT pride! Give where you fish!

CRVTU AWARDED EMBRACE A STREAM GRANT!

Trout Unlimited awarded CRVTU a $5,500 Embrace a Stream grant to fund our native riparian tree and shrub planting along 0.25 miles of the banks of Utley Brook in Landgrove, VT as part of a larger floodplain restoration project. The planting date will be this spring (April-May) and volunteers are encouraged to contact [email protected] to sign up.

Utley Brook lies in the headwaters of the West River and is high quality wild brook trout habitat nestled in the eastern range of the southern Green Mountains. The project site is on conserved land near the Landgrove Town Office and was formerly cleared farm land. Erosion from more frequent and severe flooding events has added excess sediment to the water and caused bank failures. The roots of the trees and shrubs we plant during this project will help stabilize the stream banks during floods, while the branches and leaves will shade the water keeping them cool for wild trout in summer. Check out our website tu-connriver.square.site for updates!

“We need more people fishing our rivers, not fewer. In fact, I would go a step further: If you care about the future of our planet, one of the best things you can do is go fishing. Better still, take your child or grandchild. The reasons are both ecological and political. The president calls climate change a “hoax,” and his administration is working to expand fossil fuel production and open up public lands and wilderness to development. Certainly, some anglers share those views. But the fishing advocates I’ve met describe a spreading consensus among those who wear waders: They see what’s already lost and feel protective of what’s still there.”
