Rotarians supporting Homes for Our Troops supporting a local Veteran with a specially adapted custom home. Volunteers laid sod in the front and back yard, dug holes for plants, and spread mulch and pine straw in landscaping beds. Thanks to Paul Niggl and Dori Bishara for leading the charge. The temp hit 100. This is real dedication to the cause.

Our community engagement committee led by PN Dori Bishara unloaded supplies donated by club members. Larry Sackett and Carla went shopping to support Communities in Schools Stuff the Bus event as well. We collected 6 pks of tissues, 2 rolls of paper towels, 16 Lysol wipes, 10 3ring binders, 26 pencil cases, 25 pairs of scissors, 20 pks of erasers, 17 packs of dry erase markers, 3 pks of sharpies, 16 pks of highlighters, 41 pks of pencils, 28 pks colored pencils, 13 pks of washable markers, 4 pks of pens, 19 pencil sharpeners, 1 ruler, 4 post it pads, 3 hand sanitizers, 13 backpacks, 1 lunchbox, 7 pr headphones, 4 pks paper, 1 pk tab dividers, 98 notebooks, 1 planner, 86 pks of crayons, 18 bottles of glue, 40 glue sticks, 22 composition books, 51 folders, 10 index pks and $60 in cash donations. Helping out today: Pres Tiffany, Brittnei LaRue, Melissa Ruehle, Brannon Walters, Chris Barnes and Donna Shiro.

As we prepare for the Stuff the Bus event that culminates on Thursday, August 13, Rotarians brought in school supplies. We're blessed with a very active club. We'll also be at the Office Depot at Hanover Center Thursday at 1:30 if you have any last-minute dropoffs.

Today, members of our Rotary club volunteered at the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, sorting and packing donated baked goods including bread, bagels, donuts, and more for distribution to local food pantries.

Together, our team sorted an incredible 6,578 pounds of food, helping provide 5,481 meals to neighbors throughout our community.

Rotarians who volunteered include Cat Marinich, Heather Evans, Marissa Ruehle, Donna Hargens, PN Dori Bishara, Steve Yates, President David Grandey, Mark DeLoach, Jack Clark, and Scott Betz. We were joined by some special volunteers, including Dori's son, Jasper, Marissa's friend, Sam, and Brannon Walters from Patriot Roofing. Seeing community members of all ages come together to serve others is what Rotary is all about.

District 7730 end of year awards:
Avenues of Service Awards: RB Richey for youth services specifically RYLA; Donna Cameron for leadership in our LIS event; Ernie Olds, for leading our grants process; John Hatcher for 15 years of fundraising prowess, as a major sponsor, and having raised over $600,000 in that time; Dori Bishara for community service, organizing and promoting our district-grant work days and many other projects; Tolis Vardakis for leading our charitable foundation's board; John Meyer for the best newsletter in all the land, publications and publicity.

Terry Smith received an award for District Treasurer. Max Wagenseller received an award for District Rookie of the Year primarily for chartering an Interact Club at NHHS. AG Cathy Barlow received an award for Area Governor. President David picked up the award for Club Excellence.

Congratulations to everyone on an outstanding Rotary year.

This video begins with close-up views of the Rotary Wheel Garden and the adjacent Amphitheater, both of which were gifts from the Wilmington Rotary Club to the city during the 1960s. Greenfield Park has always been important to the club; just four years after it was founded, our members met at Greenfield Lake, and for the next several years the club lobbied to prevent inappropriate development along its shores and for the city to acquire it as a park. That finally happened in 1926, which is one of the reasons we're seeing this now, celebrating the 100th anniversary of this unique public asset.
