Moment for Music
Before World Music Day arrives Sunday, June 21, we note three locals and a part-timer: Wilmington jazz trumpeter Clifford Brown, shown here, died at age 25 in a 1956 crash, but his jazz impact endures and he’s recognized by markers, sculptures and namings such as the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival. Next, we honor bad-to-the-bone native rocker George Thorogood & the Destroyers, just inducted to the Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum. We also applaud Jimmie Allen of Milton, Country Music Awards’ 2021 New Artist of the Year. Last, we hail reggae icon Bob Marley, sometimes of Wilmington in the ’60-70s, enough to leave us a “One Love” legacy.
