June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month. For many teenage boys, mental health challenges are real, even when they are not always visible. According to the CDC, more than one in four male high school students report persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness, nearly one in five report struggles with their mental health, and roughly 13% report thoughts of su***de. These realities remind us that supporting the whole person remains an essential part of Salesianum.
At Salesianum, formation extends beyond the classroom. Through the Hynansky Wellness Center and the daily relationships students build with trusted adults and peer counselors, we strive to create a community where young men are known, supported, and encouraged to grow academically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally. Mental health resources are provided in various ways to our students, which is also supported by the SL24: UnLocke the Light Foundation.
This month serves as a reminder that caring for one's mental and emotional well-being is not separate from becoming the man God calls us to be. It is part of the journey.
