Wilmington Falcons

Wilmington Falcons Wilmington Delaware Peregrine Falcons The current resident falcons are an established female (Red Girl) and a new male.

A nest box was installed on the Brandywine Building (currently called CITI) in Wilmington, DE in 1992 by Craig Koppie of USFWS. Red Girl hatched in Harrisburg, PA in 2008 and has been at this nest site since 2010. A prolific egg layer and a devoted mother, she has fledged over 50 offspring from Wilmington! The male, who has not yet received a name, hatched in 2018 on the Walt Whitman Bridge. He re

placed Trinity, the previous male, late in the 2022 breeding season so he and Red Girl have produced no offspring yet. In 2022, Red Girl and Trinity produced five eggs. Unfortunately the activity resulting from the change in males caused gaps in coverage during the incubation period and the eggs failed to hatch. https://youtube.com/channel/UCEPpaGzbL-3oCERHOeOIIZQ

All three fledglings are safe and accounted for. Nightfall finds Yellow on the front of Brandywine Building after a day filled w1ith several long flights. Pink, after two rescues, showed up on the roof edge of the PNC building, across Delaware Avenue from the Brandywine Building, and almost as tall. Green is on a rooftop on Nemours. The fledge watchers are also all accounted for - no small feat after a day of chasing the world's fastest animals around the city in 90 plus degree heat.

Yellow is on Wilmington Trust and Green is on Nemours. Pink, had to be rescued twice today and is once again "hiding" from fledge watch. Not sure exactly where she is now. Here's her second release on Brandywine Building by Rachel, Charlotte, and Alan.

No word on Green yet. Pinky and Yellow spent the night on Wilm Trust, then Pinky flew off and ended up on a very low window sill on Brandywine Bldg. Eventually she flew to ground where fledge watcher Nina rescued her. Video is Nina's release of Pinky on the roof.

Green took off and was out of sight for a while. She was eventually found several blocks south in an area of row homes and no tall buildings. She can't be reached on the roofs so she will have to go to ground or fly out on her own. She is probably wet from the rain so we expect no resolution until tomorrow. Yellow stayed in the nest box until a little after four, then joined Pinky on Wilmington Trust. They picked on each other for a while like kids do and then got soaked in the rain. Stewart also got soaked keeping an eye on them.

Update Wednesday morning: None of the kids has flown yet this morning. Yellow spent the night in the nest box and is still there as of this posting at 9:30 a.m. Pink and Green are still hanging out together on the old Wilmington Trust Building. Yellow and Pink have eaten, Green still waiting.
