No one should lose access to mental health care because they are struggling with the very symptoms that make paperwork and reporting difficult.

Millions of people who rely on Medicaid could face new barriers to keeping their health coverage under recently released federal work-reporting rules.

While Congress said people with mental health conditions would be protected, these new rules may make it difficult for many individuals to qualify for exemptions or maintain coverage when they need care most.

For people living with mental illness, Medicaid can be the difference between stability and crisis. Losing coverage because of paperwork requirements could put access to lifesaving treatment at risk.

Now is the time to speak up. Contact your members of Congress and urge them to protect Medicaid access for people with mental health conditions and ensure these rules do not create unnecessary barriers to care.

Strong communities are built through partnership.

At NAMI Delaware, we know that businesses, healthcare providers, schools, nonprofits, and community organizations all play a vital role in creating a healthier Delaware. As grant funding becomes more limited and demand for mental health support continues to grow, collaboration is more important than ever.

By partnering with NAMI Delaware through our 2026 events and initiatives, your organization helps keep critical mental health education, support groups, outreach, advocacy, and community resources free and accessible to individuals and families across our state.

We invite corporations, hospitals, healthcare systems, schools, universities, peer organizations, and community partners to join us through sponsorship opportunities for:
• NAMIWalks Delaware
• Inspiring Hope Speaker Series
• 50+ Sussex County Health & Fitness Fair

Partnership benefits include year-round visibility through event registration platforms, social media, email campaigns, onsite signage, presentations, vendor opportunities, and community engagement across Delaware.

Together, we can reduce stigma, expand access to care, and strengthen our communities' mental health.

June is PTSD Awareness Month. PTSD does not only affect veterans. It can impact anyone who has experienced trauma, abuse, violence, loss, discrimination, medical trauma, accidents, or crisis, making it clear that trauma can happen to anyone in our community.

Some symptoms of PTSD are:
◘Re-experiencing: Intrusive thoughts, nightmares, or sudden flashbacks where you feel like you are reliving the trauma.
◘Avoidance: Actively steering clear of places, people, or objects that act as reminders of the event.
◘Negative Mood & Cognition: Emotional numbness, feelings of detachment from others, memory gaps regarding the trauma, and persistent negative thoughts.
◘Hyperarousal: Being easily startled, feeling "keyed up" or on guard, irritability, trouble sleeping, and angry outbursts.

Many people live with symptoms silently for years before seeking help.

This PTSD Awareness Month, we encourage our community to learn the signs, which can help you feel more empowered, talk openly about trauma, and know that recovery is possible.

Our Connection Recovery Support Groups may be a place where you or a loved one can find hope. To find upcoming groups, check out our calendar: https://www.namidelaware.org/events-calendar-24/

Recently, we received a phone call from a mother who wanted to make a donation to NAMI Delaware, even though she does not live in our state.

As we spoke, she shared pieces of her story. She had recently lost one of her adult children, who had lived with multiple mental health conditions. Years earlier, she had also experienced the loss of another child to su***de.

Through unimaginable grief, she spoke about how deeply grateful she was for the support, education, and understanding that NAMI had provided to her and her family over the years. Now, as she continues navigating loss and healing, she shared that she plans to attend NAMI support groups for herself.

Her call was a reminder that mental health support does not only impact one person. It reaches parents, siblings, spouses, children, friends, and entire families. Sometimes, simply having a place where people feel understood can make all the difference.

Every donation helps us continue providing support groups, education, outreach, and hope to individuals and families who need to know they are not alone.

If you would like to help us continue this work, please consider making a gift today.

Sometimes, when we struggle to find the words to share with others, our pets become the quiet comfort we need most. Our furry, feathered, and even scaly companions sit beside us without judgment, offering presence, comfort, and companionship during difficult moments. They stay beside us and offer comfort during the moments when we may not yet feel ready to reach out to someone else.

As we enjoy a slower Saturday together, share a favorite photo of your pet in the comments and tell us a little about the friend who helps brighten your days.

Men’s mental health matters, yet too many men are still taught to stay silent about stress, anxiety, trauma, depression, grief, and even suicidal thoughts. This silence can leave people feeling isolated when they need connection and support the most.

During Men’s Health Month, we encourage open and honest conversations about emotional wellness and mental health care. Asking for help is not a weakness, and reaching out can change... and even save lives. No one should feel they have to carry everything alone.

If you or someone you know is struggling, support and resources are available through NAMI’s Men’s Mental Health Resources.
