Even though it is slow right now, take care of your family first.

BUT... learn to read the numbers, learn the calendar, learn how dispatch operates.

Yes there are flukes where the CH jumps or cycles. But if you are a good student, you should be able predict when the hall moves, then decide how many letters are actually going to show up, and catch 80-90% of the jobs.

Nobody ever thinks it can happen to them, until it does. This happened at HANJIN/TTI a little while ago. Complacency(being too comfortable in your surroundings) is the largest contributor to accidents for our jobs. No matter what job you have, your head needs to be on a swivel, no cell phones, no head phones, etc. Completely focused on the job and your surroundings.

700+ IDs getting elevated to A book over the next month. Should be interesting to see what happens. They won't have the 70% requirement anymore and they can take comebacks on every job. They will also get a job before steadies and IDs on all jobs, and be the second board to get their choice of utrs after the people on the autr board get out. Another caviat, to maintain benefits and in good standing, they only NEED to work at least 1 day per month and 800 hours per year, or as much as they want.

When working on the docks, it's important to keep your eyes, ears and nose open. The top operator came out of the stack and asked over the radio if anyone smelled smoke. I saw sparks dropping under the top and told him he was on fire and get his butt out of there. Moments later the mechanics showed up, opened the engine hatch and the engine compartment burst into flames.

Chinese New Year started today. The year of the rabbit.
For the next 2-3 weeks, Chinese workers will be on vacation. So expect a decrease in cargo starting the week of February 6 and lasting for about a month.

When someone yells at you not to walk under a load, or drive under a load. Don't think that it's no big thing. Crap happens.
This happened at TraPac a year ago when beam separated from the head unit. Luckily everyone was where they were supposed to be and none got hurt.

I've seen a few casuals being fired for not showing up on time after lunch or break.
It is important to make sure you cover the job. This isn't like working at Walmart or Starbucks. Your job requires you to be present so that the job can start.
If you're early, you're on time, if you're on time, you're late.
