MISSION MOMENT:
Five years ago, I met the Servicky family when Laurel (Servicky) Shambley’s mother Leslie was hospitalized near the end of her battle with lung cancer.
I witnessed Leslie fighting to add meaningful moments, even if it meant just minutes, to her life on Earth with her family. I saw Laurel’s family longing to provide their mother all the love and comfort possible in her passing moments.
It was beautiful, and heartbreaking, at the same time. The connection made in those few days with Leslie, and her family, continues to impact me as a provider, and as a friend and family member to many with cancer.
As a hospitalist and the medical director of NHRMC’s Surgery Navigation Center, I’ve had the opportunity to care for cancer patients in various stages of illness and walks of life.
Our patients face emotional, financial, and medical hardships, and NHRMC recognizes that there are many things that can impact a patient’s care.
Your support of our community's cancer patients through Currents of Care is essential to providing the best experience possible during an otherwise difficult time.
Whether it’s through addressing disparities in early cancer detection, providing nutritional support to optimize health around a patient’s treatment and surgery, or covering transportation to essential appointments, the financial commitments of many working together make a big difference and are deeply appreciated.
