Born4Brothers Program Description

Born4Brothers (B4B), established in 2017 by Founder, Executive Director Tramaine Smith, is a
mentorship program dedicated to the mentoring of middle to high school male students that need
positive male role models and mentors. We work in conjunction with the parents, schools, and
community organizations to be a reliable, consistent and devoted resource for the B4

B mentees. Why We Do It
Studies show when teens have caring adults in their lives, they are less likely to engage in risky
behaviors and focus on their academics. Just one caring adult can help reverse the adverse
effects of traumatic childhood experiences. One of the most
reliable predictors of whether a boy will succeed rests on a single question, “Does he have a man
in his life to look up to?”
Born4Brothers is there to be a listening ear, a guide, an investor in their individual qualities, and a
cheerleader who celebrates their strives toward healthy lifestyles, positive choices and personal
growth. We honor their, at times confusing and difficult journey into manhood. We stand by them
so that they do not have to take this journey alone. Our young scholars recognize and respond
positively to authentic interest and relationship building within the program. How We Do It
The B4B’s program connects with the Born4Brothers Scholars through the following:
• Consistent engagement with scheduled one on ones with mentees
• Home visits with mentee and parents via zoom
• Character development, goal setting, life skills and team building group activities
• Requirements of accountability for school attendance, grades and personal
goals
We expand their world through exposure to a variety of activities like college tours,
volunteerism, community events, and our “Real Talk Series” that brings in positive
influential men from their communities that they can relate to and be inspired.

We built this organization through consistency, sacrifice, relationships, and showing up when young people needed us most.
We have helped hundreds of students overcome barriers, discover their potential, and walk across the graduation stage.
Now, we’re taking everything we’ve learned and building something even greater.
We were born for this work—and greatness is still the outcome

From the first steps of Born4Brothers in 2017 to the relaunch and ribbon-cutting on August 1, 2026, this journey has been built on trust, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to Wilmington’s youth.
We know how much potential exists in our young people: and how often they face challenges without the consistent support they deserve. Through every challenge, our mission has remained clear: create a safe, stable, and empowering community where youth can learn, grow, lead, and thrive.
The expansion to Born4Brothers & Sisters represents more than a new name. It represents growth, inclusion, renewed purpose, and a stronger village for young people and families. Together, we are creating more opportunities for mentorship, academic assistance, career guidance, emotional support, leadership development, life skills, college preparation, community service, and youth-led success. To our mentors, families, youth, community partners, donors, volunteers, guests, supporters, and everyone who attended, shared our message, opened a door, or continues to stand with us: thank you. Your belief makes this work possible, and your presence reminds us that transformation is never a solo journey.

Big things are happening in Wilmington!

We are officially relaunching Born4Brothers with a renewed focus and a clear vision for the future. Our new Mission & Vision banner says it all: we are here to transform at-risk students into successful graduates and bridge the gap for the youth in our community.

Through personalized mentorship and a supportive network of positive role models, we provide the stability, trust, and essential life skills that our students need to overcome challenges and achieve greatness. We aren’t just a program; we are a community dedicated to empowering the next generation of leaders.

On behalf of Born 4 Brothers & Sisters, we are excited to invite you and your organization to join us for a special milestone as we celebrate the official relaunch and ribbon-cutting of our headquarters in the heart of downtown Wilmington.

Believe it or not, it’s been three years since we opened our doors at 725 N. Market Street. While we’ve been hard at work serving youth and families, we realized many in our community have never had the opportunity to visit our space. We’re changing that—and we’d love for you to be part of this exciting new chapter.
