An automated shipping port in Edgemoor is being proposed by the State of Delaware (glorified as potentially one of the largest in the USA). I-95 from Claymont to Wilmington and all the side streets to get to the Delaware River will be FLOODED with trucks 24/7 because there is no train rail that runs along the river, so EVERY shipping container would need to be TRUCKED in. The pollution, noise, and traffic this would create in a densely populated area is downright ruining for people to commute through and live in and around. Ask LA. Ask North Jersey. Ask NY.
Taxpayers would have to come up with the $1 BILLION to build it, too! And it won't return to us through employment. Automated ports have a few hundred employees, most on computers, and the rest are ROBOTS.
And now global tariff exemption for low-cost goods under $800 was ended by Trump, which has terminated millions of orders and shipments from around the world anyway, and that will only limit any need for a giant new port. If you are a Delaware resident or commute into or through Delaware, please reach out to Governor Matt Meyer and local lawmakers to stop this grossly short-sighted proposal.
